GUN CONTROL LAWS

Every time there is an incident of gun violence in this nation, especially when the incident involves a white shooter, shooting blacks, the current President of the United States weighs in on the matter and indicates the need for more gun control laws. Surprise, Mr. President! We have Federal Firearms Laws. Also, each state has their own set of gun control laws. Of course, the President’s followers/worshippers holler out, “More gun control, more gun control.”

While I can’t possibly summarize the Federal gun control laws, I’ll briefly highlight a few of them in the following paragraphs.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed (the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution).

In 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court held in District of Columbia v. Heller that the Second Amendment prohibits the Federal government from passing laws prohibiting an individual’s right to possess a hand gun in the home and requiring any firearms in the home to be inoperable during possession.

In 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court held in McDonald v. Chicago, that the Second Amendment through the Fourteenth Amendment also prohibits States and political subdivisions from prohibiting an individual’s right to possess a hand gun in the house, but as in Heller, state laws may restrict the possession of firearms by felons, etc.

This section goes on the Define a firearm.

A person is entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from one state where his firearms’ possession is legal to another state where his firearms’ possession is legal. The firearms may not be seized by the local police if: The firearm the firearm is unloaded and the firearm or any ammo being transported is readily or directly accessible from the passenger compartment. In the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment, the firearm and ammo shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console.

Long Gun Possession (rifle or shotgun): a person of any age may possess a long gun.

Hand Gun Possession: A person under 18 years of age may not possess a handgun or handgun only ammo.

A person may not purchase a handgun from a licensed gun dealer whose premises are located in a state where the buyer does not reside. It is a felony violation to knowingly make a false statement or show false identification to a licensed gun dealer. A potential purchaser must state of Form 4473 his name, address, date of birth, place of birth, height, weight, gender, race, prohibited person status and sign it.

The licensed gun dealer must notify the FBI or state authorities of the purchaser’s identification so a criminal background check can be completed before the firearm is transferred.

Indictment or information for a felony: Such a person has restrictions paced on his firearms activity. He may continue to lawfully possess the firearms and ammunition he already has, but may not ship or take them across state lines and may not acquire more firearms or ammunition affecting interstate commerce.

On top of the Federal gun laws, each state has its own set of gun laws. The following will summarize the gun laws for the state of Alabama, my state.

With some exceptions, the open carry of firearms is lawful. It is unlawful to carry a concealed pistol, firearm, or air gun without a permit. It is unlawful for a person to carry a pistol concealed about his person on premises not his own or under his control. It is unlawful to carry a rifle or shotgun walking cane.

No state permit is required to possess a rifle, shotgun, or handgun. It is unlawful for a drug addict, habitual drunkard, or one who has been convicted of a crime of violence to own or possess a handgun. Law enforcement authorities have advised that minors cannot carry or possess a handgun.

It is unlawful to sell, give, lend or deliver a handgun to any person under 18, or to a person whom the seller has reasonable cause to believe has been convicted of a crime of violence, is a drug addict, a habitual drunkard, or of unsound mind.

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley has signed comprehensive pro-gun legislation. As of May 26, 2015, the Alabama State Senate passed a bill that would allow gun owners to carry and transport loaded handguns in their vehicle without a concealed carry permit.

The following will summarize the gun laws for the state of Illinois. It is unlawful to carry or possess any firearm in any vehicle or concealed on or about the person, except on one’s land or in one’s abode or fixed place of business, without a license. It is unlawful to possess any firearm or ammunition without a valid FOID (Firearms Owner’s Identification Card).A buyer is required to show his FOID when purchasing any firearms or ammunition. The seller must retain for 10 years, a record of the transfer, including a description of the firearm, the identity of the buyer, and the buyer’s FOID number. It is unlawful to sell, manufacture, purchase, possess or carry any weapon from which more than one shat may be discharged by a single function of the trigger, including the frame or receiver of any such weapon.

As one can readily see, gun laws are substantially stricter in Illinois when compared to Alabama. In the city of Chicago, Illinois, guns are illegal and Chicago has some of the worst gun violence cases in the United States.

Whenever a shooting takes place such as the recent shooting in Charleston, S.C. of nine church members inside the Emanuel AME Church, liberals always blame guns and demand more gun control laws. Well, in Charleston, liberals also blamed the Confederate flag for that shooting. Last week, I was one of two or maybe three conservatives involved in a Facebook discussion on gun control where a liberal FB friend of a liberal FB friend posted a photo denigrating what they say is record profits by gun manufacturers. It’s certainly understandable why gun manufacturers are making record profits.

People want to get their guns while they still can. The liberals seemed to think that there were no gun control laws in the United States with the reason being that the current president has been blocked from instituting meaningful gun control legislation because the Republican-majority Congress will not pass gun control laws.

It’s really amazing what liberals say, isn’t it?

THE POWER OF THE PRESIDENT

When I was very young, much too young to understand the workings of government, I know my country, the United States of America, had a President. I can’t remember how this conversation got started, but Mama, Daddy, and I had a talk about the President of the United States and the powers he has as President.

Mama and Daddy were quick to point out to me that the president was not all powerful and could not do anything he wanted as president. To get something done, he had to go through Congress (the Senate and the House of Representatives). Congress had to vote on and approve bills that the president wanted passed. From this long ago conversation, I gleaned that the president didn’t have much power at all, instead, he was charged with the responsibility of enforcing the laws that Congress passes.

I later, in school, learned about the separation of powers, the three branches of government, and the principle of checks and balances. The above were put in place by our founding fathers in order to preserve our republic and not allow us to evolve into a totalitarian state.

Being a baby boomer, I readily admit that I have taken our freedoms in the United States of America for granted. I grew up with the following:

  • Free, open elections of our political officials.
  • Freedom of speech to criticize our elected and appointed officials through different mediums.
  • Freedom to travel anywhere in this country and abroad.
  • A free and independent press to hold our government officials accountable.
  • Freedom of religion to worship as we saw fit or not to worship at all.
  • The freedom to pursue happiness and success.

We enjoyed these freedoms for so many years because no one particular person was in charge. The president was deemed the most important person in our governmental structure, but there were limits in what he could do fostered by a three-branched government and the system of checks and balances. Plus, there was that document called the U.S. Constitution that gives powers to the states that are not specifically outlined in the Constitution.

Sure, presidents have always had the power to implement their desires through executive orders. Some have used them more than others, but presidents in the past seemed to use them for more mundane things and the executive orders have not affected our day to day lives. Fast forward to today where we have a president who has indicated that he would go around Congress to put into place anything he wanted to implement. He says he’s doing things that he feels are right for this country, but he knows that Congress won’t pass these things.

This is not the way this country was set up to function. But this president’s followers seem to be mesmerized by him and think anything he does is wonderful. Plus, the press is on his side, not free and independent. Of course, the press has been in the tank for the left for decades.

According to teaparty.org in an article dated March 5, 2015, Obama publicly announced his supreme authoritative dictatorship. Confirming what I said above, our Founding Fathers purposely established a three branch government so that no one person or group of people would end up with absolute power. To pass a new law, it would take both the House of Representatives and the Senate to pass the same bill and then it has to be signed into law by the President.

The current president has repeatedly taken it upon himself to declare law, eliminate law, and change law without going through Congress as required by the U.S. Constitution. He took it upon himself to instruct the Department of Justice to stop enforcing the Defense of Marriage Act and what immigration laws he wanted ignored and which ones to obey, among others.

Obama has also bypassed Congress and decided to change the federal welfare laws in an obvious attempt to buy votes among America’s poor. In a move that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich refers to as illegal, the current president has taken action to completely gut the work requirement from the Welfare Reform Act that was passed in 1996 and signed into law by former President Bill Clinton.

Obama has continued to act without the consent of Congress. Congress froze all federal aid to Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood government because of their terrorist activities and inhumane treat of the Egyptian people. Without any congressional approval or court order, Obama took it upon himself to release millions of dollars in money and weapons, including a number of fighter jets to the terrorist regime. Remember, Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood has called the United States an enemy like Israel that needs to be destroyed. That constitutes treason according to the U.S. Constitution.

Obama has also used a number of executive orders that would allow him to take over every form of communication, banking, and commerce in the declaration of an alleged national emergency. Furthermore, Internet regulations were established that would also give Obama complete control of the Internet if he wanted it.

Notice that Obama did not say that what he is doing is legal, but just the right thing to do according to him. He defies Congress to try and stop him from doing anything they believe is illegal.

By all of the above, he has established himself as a dictator, a king, a monarch. How could this have happened in a country where all precautions were taken to insure that something like this wouldn’t happen? President Ronald Reagan, in one of him most famous quotes once said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it on to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spending our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”

I wake up every morning wondering what Barack Obama is going to do today to further destroy the United States of America. With zombie-like low information followers who literally worship him and have ceded to him the power to control their lives because they view him as some sort of messiah, plus a main stream media who will not hold him accountable, we have not protected the freedoms our Founding Fathers established for us.

At this point, what can we do to preserve and protect our country? We’ve allowed an evil man to take control of our country. That evil man promised us hope and change. That evil man said he wanted to fundamentally transform the United States of America. Because folks were dissatisfied with the current administration, without stopping to think, they bought into this silver-tongued charlatan’s vile message and elected him not once, but twice.

What do we do now? What do we do now? When you think you have nowhere to go, think again. You do have somewhere to go; go to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I pray to him every night and every morning, and many times during the day to have mercy on the United States of America. Take everything to God in prayer. God is our refuge in perilous times. He will take care of his children.

HOW MANY LIES CAN LIBERALS TELL

If I didn’t know I was reading liberal rag, Politicus USA, I would have thought the article I was reading was talking about liberals. Politicus USA indicates in the first paragraph of an article, entitled “With a Stroke of His Pen, President Obama Renders Hobby Lobby Ruling Obsolete,” written by Rmuse and published on July 13, 2015, that in 21st Century America, evangelical Republicans are those who demand it is “their way of the highway.” WHAT? This is pure nonsense. It’s liberals that always demand their way and most the time get it. If there’s a close election between a Republican and a Democrat, most always the Democrat wins. There’s always that box of ballots in the trunk of some car with just enough votes cast for the Democrat candidate, and the ballots from military overseas didn’t arrive in time to be counted. Republican Scott Brown winning the Senate race in Massachusetts to replace the late Senator Edward Kennedy, giving the Democrats a 59-41 majority in the Senate, should have been the end of ACA. However, the Democrats used every legislative trick in the book plus threats and intimidation to pass ACA. They were not going to be denied. I could sight many more examples of Democrats demanding and getting their way, but that’s not the subject of this post.

Rmuse goes on to write that there is no greater example of Republicans having it their way than the religious Republican crusade to control women’s reproductive health; or better put, to force every woman in American into being perpetual birth machines. According to Rmuse, a popular evangelical talking point to support their demand for control over American women was they would not tolerate any woman, married or single, having “consequence free sex.” Then Rmuse stated that restricting birth control was the religious right’s method of punishing women who failed to tow the evangelical line and remain celibate of perpetually pregnant. The above is some of the most outrageous garbage that I’ve ever read that was authored by a liberal and as a political blogger, I’ve read a lot of garbage.

In Hobby Lobby v. Burwell, the United States Supreme Court ruled that: “As applied to closely held for-profit corporations, the Health and Human Services regulations imposing the contraceptive mandate violate the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. HHS’s contraceptive mandate substantially burdens the exercise of religion under the RFRA. The Court assumes that guaranteeing cost-free access to the four challenged contraceptive methods is a compelling governmental interest, but the Government has failed to show that the mandate is the least restrictive means of furthering that interest. That’s a mouthful and makes you think.

Rmuse rants and raves in this article and I have to admit that this unenlightened oaf had some trouble ascertaining what he was talking about. But it does appear that the author of this article believes that companies should provide all forms of birth control, including abortion, to its employees. He or she (I can’t tell by the name) also states that religious fanatics, and particularly Republican religious fanatics, are at the forefront of the war against any woman who believes that they have a right to choose when they give birth. How can this writer say such things with no basis?

First of all, there were only four types of birth control that Hobby Lobby did not want to cover: abortion, the morning after pill, IUDs, and one other. These forms of birth control kill the fertilized egg/ovum or the fetus. The other types and there’s a long list, including birth control pills, diaphragms, sponges, etc. are covered by Hobby Lobby’s insurance contract. Somehow, this writer translates an employer’s desire to cover a long list of birth control methods except for four into a war against women where religious fanatics, including Republicans want to restrict women’s reproductive right, forcing them to become birth machines or celibate. WHAT A CROCK!

I went to the Huffington Post for information on what was rendered with the current President’s pen stroke because Rmuse was so outrageous in his statements. According to HP, the Obama administration on Friday, July 10, issued its final rules for employers who morally object to covering birth control in their health insurance plans. The accommodation insures that all employed women, unless they work for a place of worship, will still have their birth control covered at no cost to them, even if their employers refuse to cover it.

So, the current President found a way around the Supreme Court ruling with his pen. He changes the law without going through Congress. So what else is new? We don’t have a President of the United States anymore, the current President is a dictator. He justifies his actions by indicating that he’s only doing what is best for the country because the Republicans in Congress won’t pass pieces of his socialist agenda. Well, I got news for you, current President! That’s not how this country works. We have three equal branches of government, Legislative, Executive, and Judicial. The changes you made with your pen needed Congressional approval. Of course, the liberals area all in favor of it. But wait until we get a Republican president and he or she does the same thing?

WANT TO SEND A LIBERAL INTO A RAGE? Just make comments to the effect that this administration, particularly the current first lady, in her quest to emphasize living a healthy lifestyle, encourages us to watch what we eat and exercise regularly. In other words, we should demonstrate some discipline and restraint when it comes to what we eat and how we treat our bodies overall. But when it comes to sex, just do it with anyone or anything whenever you feel the urge. We’ll provide you with birth control, antibiotics, and even abortion. If you’re trapped in a body that clashes with your hormonal desires, we’ll take care of that also.

In this post, I’ve attempted to cover some of the lies that liberals tell and showcase their rants and raves. I’ve also tried to demonstrate how the current President has become a dictator who ignores the U.S. Constitution and does whatever he thinks is right or good for the country, even though our government is not set up in that fashion.

However, I don’t believe that the current President, with his pen, feels that what he does is best for this country. His job, after being elected President, is to destroy this country, taking it down to the level of a socialist/communist nation. And he’s doing just that.

IT’S EVERYONE’S FAULT, BUT…

I should have kept count, but I didn’t, of the number of articles I have read where liberals are blaming Republicans for the riots that have broken out in Baltimore and various cities across the United States in relation to the death of Freddie Gray while he was in the custody of the Baltimore, Maryland police department.

According to alternet.com, a far left rag, “The protests and violent exhalations by Baltimore’s black youth (and others) are the result of a long patter of police abuse, harassment and violence toward that city’s African-American community in the context of systemic class inequality, custodial citizenship and mass incarceration.”

According to the American Spectator, the current President has blamed the Baltimore riots on Republicans for failing to pass his legislative agenda. Hasn’t he just issued executive orders whenever he didn’t get what he wants? The American Spectator, goes on to say that the city does suffer from crippling unemployment, and that the police department has a history of treating criminals as less than human. In just a few short years, the Baltimore PD has paid out millions in jury awards and settlements to arrestees and their families, which, while far from conclusive, shows there might be a problem with the aggressive nature of law enforcement.

If what has been said about the Baltimore Police Department is true, it’s not the fault of the Republicans, it’s the fault of the city government, particularly the mayor, who happens to be the secretary of the Democrat National Committee.

You can blame the Great Society programs which led to the denigration of the black family and the increase in poverty in our nation’s black communities, but I’m going to go back farther. I’m going to blame it on the taking of God out of our lives, something the liberals started in the sixties and are still doing today.

In 1962, the United States Supreme Court decided in Engel v. Vitale that a prayer approved by the New York Board of Regents for use in schools violated the First Amendment by constituting an establishment of religion. The following year, in Abington School District v. Schempp, the Court disallowed Bible readings in public schools for similar reasons. According to religionandpolitics.org, these two landmark Supreme Court decisions entered on the place of religion in public education, and particularly the place of Protestantism, which had long been accepted as the given American faith tradition. Both decisions ultimately changed the face of American civil society, and in turn, helped usher in the last half-century of the culture wars.

After the taking of God out of our society, church attendance dropped and children were not attending church and growing up with the teachings of the Lord. Of course, they didn’t pray or get to hear scripture in their school either. As years passed, we began seeing the liberal efforts to diminish the value of our traditional holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, even though Thanksgiving does not celebrate a biblical event. Liberals love to pontificate over the “separation of church and state” even though that phrase is nowhere in the U.S. Constitution.

When I was growing up in a traditional Christian family, I was taken to Sunday school and church. I was taught to follow the Lord and be thankful for all the blessings that he bestowed upon me. While my family wasn’t the richest in my hometown of Cullman, Alabama, we weren’t the poorest either. Some children with whom I grew up had more than me and some had less than me. There’s no such thing as a level playing field. All of us have some God given talents and all of us have shortcomings and hurdles to jump as we’re making our way in this world of ours.

The liberals blame us conservatives and Republicans for not supporting the throwing of good money after bad when it comes to entitlement programs, particularly those that throw money at poverty stricken areas. It appalls me that Democrats, even operating on one brain cell, can’t comprehend that throwing money at poverty doesn’t make it go away, it only exacerbates it.

And look what’s happened now, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who claims to be a socialist democrat, has announced his intention to seek the Democrat nomination for President. Bernie is calling for, guess what, tax increases for the wealthiest Americans. He also wants to provide a college education for everyone. He continues and I’m sure will continue to pontificate on income inequality which he considers and abomination.

Today on social media, I have seen many Democrats come out in favor of Bernie Sanders, with many of them indicating that Bernie wouldn’t get very far against Hillary. However, these far left individuals have indicated that they hope Bernie will bring Hillary further left as she pursues the presidency.

The United States of America is a country that I don’t recognize anymore. Criminals are glorified, free speech has disappeared, we’re turning our backs on our trusted allies, we’re turning our backs on God and appearing to sympathize with Muslims. The federal government is talking about coming in and re-training our local police forces. It’s just so over-whelming and depressing. While I certainly have a lot of material for this blog, I never wanted this much material, I never wanted our country to become what it has become.

We have strayed so far from the vision our founding fathers had for us. I can continue to write and hopefully continue to expose what’s going on, but we’re going to have to do something else if we hope to take back our country. We have to pray, and pray with everything we have. God is still in charge and we much remember that only he can put this nation on the right track again.

DO I BELIEVE WHAT I WRITE?

I have liberal friends, most of whom won’t go near this blog. There’s one, however, who does read it and thinks it’s terrible. She said to me one day, “Nancy, do you really believe the things you write?” While I have posted some spoofy, satirical pieces; for the most part, I do believe what I write. Some is speculation based on what I’m hearing from our nation’s more well-known liberals and some is based on actual experiences.

In one of my posts in November, I stated that the Federal Government is doing bad things to us. And I certainly believe they are. The current president says that he wants our energy bills to increase because he wants us to use less energy. That tells me that he doesn’t want us to be comfortable in our homes, and he doesn’t want us to enjoy driving our automobiles. Does he not want us to take road trips or airplane trips for that matter? He obviously doesn’t want any of us to have money and doesn’t care if his policies result in job losses. In trying to do away with fossil fuels and put in their place, his green energy initiatives, he is telling us to our faces that he doesn’t want us to be comfortable. Green energy is certainly not ready to take the place of fossil fuels.

And what about Obamacare? For most of us, premiums are increasing, deductibles and co-pays are increasing, and we probably won’t get to keep our doctors or our pharmacies. I do believe the quality of our healthcare will decrease, along with quality of life for most of us. According to statistics we were fed, fifteen million Americans did not have health insurance. Instead of concentrating on those fifteen million and implementing a solution whereby those desiring health insurance and were not able to procure it, could now do so, the current president and his henchmen destroyed the system for all of us.

An excerpt from that November post reads as follows: “This president and the Democrats want to destroy the United States of America as we know it. They want every single man, woman, and child to be dependent upon government for livelihood. They want everyone to live in cookie cutter houses, to drive cookie cutter cars, to wear the same slovenly outfits that are worn in other socialist countries, to eat gruel, and so forth. They don’t want everyone to have access to quality healthcare; they just want to control every aspect of your life. “

This president has said that he wanted to fundamentally change the United States of America. At the time he said this, many folks were unhappy with President George W. Bush. They wanted to see some changes. Some folks were weary of the wars that we were fighting and desired changes in foreign policy. Some thought our economic policies were not working and felt we needed a different approach. So, change sounded good to them. But for me and so many conservatives, the president’s words were definite cause for alarm. Fundamentally change? Just what kind of change is he talking about? It’s come to pass that he wasn’t talking about different approaches to areas such as foreign policy, energy, the economy, education, etc. He, instead, was promoting change to the very fabric of this nation, the constitution and the planks that our forefathers laid out for us to build upon.

With Obamacare, the democrats used every legislative trick in the book to cram that piece of unpopular legislation down our throats, certainly subverting our legislative process. If the democrats had played by the rules, the legislation would have required 60 votes in the Senate and with the election of Republican Scott Brown to replace the deceased Edward Kennedy, 60 votes in the Senate wasn’t going to happen.

And look at all of his executive actions and his statement that he had a pen and a phone and intended to use them to go around Congress if Congress failed to give him what he wanted. Yes, all presidents have used executive actions and I’m uncomfortable with any president using them. However, most executive actions by former presidents have been procedural in nature and we never heard about them, even from the liberal media. But this president is in our faces with these actions and is taking on the characteristics of a dictator. In the past he did make statements to the effect that there was so much he wanted to do, but the U.S. Constitution kept him from doing these things. Well now, it looks like he has no shame and it going to do what he wants through executive orders.

Yes, I do believe what I stated in the November blog posts as well as other posts. If he could fully have his way, we would all be living is identical cookie cutter houses, driving fuel efficient vehicles, maybe not eating gruel, but eating something equally as unappetizing. Wealth created would be distributed in his quest to make all of us equal. The second amendment would be repealed leaving us defenseless against those who are able to obtain firearms illegally.

In some of my posts, I may be kind of out there on the cusp, but I do believe everything I write I do believe has the potential of coming true if liberals continue to get their way.
