THE FAILED PRESIDENCY OF BARAK OBAMA – PART ONE

Over the next week, between now and Christmas, I will write a series of articles on the failed presidency of Barak Obama.

According to thefederalist.com, Barak Obama has failed as president in ten ways (Article dated Sept. 16, 2014):

  • He didn’t heal racial divisions: While Obama did indicate a desire for a “purple America” instead of a red America and a blue America, he has done the opposite of bringing people of different races together as one. Instead, he has taken the United States of America back to the mid-sixties/early seventies with respect to race relations. His disastrous record on race dates back to an early point in his presidency when he rushed to judgement indicating that the police had acted “stupidly” in the arrest of Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates by police Sargent James Crowley when Gates was entering his home after being away on a business trip. According to Wikipedia, Sgt. Crowley was responding to a call by a neighbor that someone was breaking into Gates’ house. Jumping to conclusions without knowing all the facts, Obama not only besmirched our nation’s police force, but began what was certainly a premeditated effort to divide this country along racial lines. Furthermore, Barak Obama has continued to divide this country along racial lines and I don’t expect him to stop anytime soon, even after he leaves office in January 2017.
  • The so-called stimulus package didn’t stimulate: Barak Obama was elected in the wake of the 2008 financial crash. Accordingly, in what was his first major act as president, he signed into an enormous spending package, adding onto our national debt. This package was supposed to jump-start the economy. Part of this stimulus package was supposed to contain “shovel-ready” projects, which Obama later admitted didn’t exist, but the billions of dollars spent disappeared without a trace. It seems like every summer we were promised a “recovery summer” where growth and employment was supposed to take off? Sadly, during the Obama presidency, the percentage of people working in the labor force actually declined. No one disputes that the economy was in crisis when Obama assumed the presidency. But he has presided over the slowest, weakest, economy recovery since the great depression.
  • Financial Reform didn’t reform: Obama assured us that we would never repeat the problems that led to the financial crisis and the recession in the first place. But the Dodd-Frank financial reforms didn’t reform anything. Instead, they created several thousand pages of new legislation and many, many more new executive branch regulations. These regulations have muddled the rules rather than clarify them. The old system in which a handful of giant financial institutions were considered too big to fail, and this could depend on the rest of us to bail them out, is alive and well.
  • The Obamacare disaster: The disastrous launch of Obamacare reminded us of everything that’s wrong with big government. No one in the administration, not even one Democrat was held accountable. I was a software engineer at the time the website was rolled out. It was unfathomable. Who was writing the code? I could have joined with five or six of my colleagues and had this out in six months and for a lot less money than was spent. The Obama administration further assured us that insurance coverage for 32 million uninsured would be provided. After four years, Obamacare had only covered between 10% and 20% of what was promised. Also, about half of those were covered through an expansion of Medicaid, a burden that would bankrupt the states, rather than through Obamacare’s Insurance Exchanges. We were lied to when we were told that if we liked our plan, we could keep our plan. We were also lied to when we were told that our premiums would substantially decrease. Many of us are paying huge premiums with enormous deductibles. If we were to need serious medical help, we could face financial ruin.
  • Obama failed to reform immigration: Per the Federalist, Obama spend all of his political capital on the failed stimulus and Obamacare, leaving nothing for immigration reform. Because he was unable to get anything through Congress, he floated a dubious plan to enact amnesty through a unilateral executive order that he doesn’t have. Instead, he failed to enforce the nation’s immigration laws, contributing to a crisis on the southern border. Thus, he has managed to enrage the right, the left, and the middle. He hasn’t cracked down on illegal immigration, he hasn’t legalized it, and he hasn’t forged any kind of compromise or consensus on the issue. Nothing has been accomplished.
  • He withdrew prematurely from Iraq: Obama was so eager to distance himself from George W. Bush that he pulled all of our troops out of Iraq as soon as possible. Furthermore, he totally ignored the country, even as a terrorist threat re-established itself there. For most of 2014, he downplayed the rise of the Islamic State, calling the JV. He later admitted to having no strategy for dealing with ISIS, but hastily put a plan together. Obviously, it didn’t work and ISIS is now in the United States and continues to flourish, and have been the root of several terrorist attacks taking place in the U.S., including those in San Bernardino and Orlando.
  • He blew the Arab Spring: When a series of uprisings overthrew dictators across the Middle East, Obama failed to adopt any meaningful policy or turn the situation to our advantage. He did nothing for so long with respect to Egypt that all of the factions there hate him, and most of Egypt’s liberals concluded that he was secretly backing the Muslim Brotherhood. As a result, Egypt went back to where it was, except this time, the military dictatorship regards the United States as a useless and irrelevant ally. Unfortunately, the two places where we could have taken advantage of the Arab Spring and rid these countries of evil dictators, Libya and Syria, ended in disaster. In Libya, the killing of our ambassador in Benghazi was just the beginning of a slow collapse into chaos and civil war. In Syria, three years of doing nothing allowed the rise of ISIS, which then spilled over into Iraq. And something many have forgotten about: In 2009, Iranians poured into the streets to oppose their own brutal theocratic, terror sponsoring regime, Obama sat back passively because he preferred to cut a diplomatic deal with the ayatollahs.
  • Obama ignored the threat of a resurgent Russian dictatorship: During a debate with Mitt Romney in 20012, Obama dismissed Romney’s suggestion that Russia might be a threat to American interests. As of September 2014, the president’s response to Russian aggression has been to impose a few more sanctions, make a speech in Estonia, and otherwise ignore the crisis and hope it goes away.
  • He didn’t shut down Guantanamo, keep the Russians from spying, or rein in the drones. Obama came into office having loudly condemned many of the Bush administration’s measures against terrorism. Then he continued them. It is the opinion of author, Robert Tracinski, that Obama has achieved a unique combination, managing to morally discredit America’s anti-terrorism policies without truly ending them.
  • He has made America irrelevant: Most of Obama’s failures have resulted not from taking a bold stand, but from taking no stand and just letting events drift. In many cases, he has given speeches or press conferences to announce his enlightened intentions, then did nothing to plan for how he was going to achieve his goals. In addition to his failures with the Arab Spring, the Ukraine, and Iraq, for most of his presidency, Obama has declared his intentions to “pivot to Asia,” extricating himself from the Middle East and focusing on bolstering our Pacific allies to peacefully manage the rise of China. He never did it and let the Asia pivot die of neglect.

When you combine the above with his frequent vacations, golf outings, and his fascination with the trappings of pop-culture celebrity, you get the impression that Obama has lost interest in being president or unable to handle the responsibility.

He was originally elected based on celebrity, on vague slogans of “hope and change,” on a sense of self-congratulatory smugness about how progressive and enlightened we would all be if we voted for him. He was re-elected on all of that, plus the smearing of his political opposition as racists and mean rich white guys.

THE CAMPAIGN ISSUES – WHERE EACH CANDIDATE STANDS (Part One)

I don’t think anyone would disagree with me that this presidential election campaign has been the most contentious in the history of the United States. In addition to being contentious, the campaign features candidates who are simply not well liked by the American voters. Because we live in an imperfect world, some mud-slinging is going to take place. Most people expect it and if the truth be known, most people enjoy a little bit of it. However, with this election cycle, it appears that most folks are sick of the contentiousness, but the press keeps on reporting on it, often times ignoring the actual issues.

This leads me to author this article outlining where candidates actually stand on the issues. The United States of America is in bad shape. The policies of Barak Obama and the Democrats have all but destroyed this country as we know it. The economy, while growing ever so slightly, is nothing short of anemic. During Obama’s first two years in office, The Affordable Care Act was rammed down our throats using every legislative trick in the book, including threats and intimidation. The Middle East is a mess due to Obama’s foreign policy; plus, our relations are strained with our only ally in the Middle East, Israel. Relations are also strained with our other allies across the globe. In addition to the above, Islamic terrorist attacks are taking place in the United States and the current administration, continues to refuse to address the problem head-on, and considers the problem the result of gun violence.

If elected to the presidency, Democrat nominee, Hillary Clinton plans to continue in the steps of the Obama administration in leading the country. Republican nominee, Donald Trump, has different ideas, acknowledging the country is in bad shape and needs a new direction.

The following will serve to compare and contrast the differences between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump on the issues most important to the American people.

Obamacare

Donald Trump: Obamacare should be repealed Health insurance should be allowed to be sold across state lines. Premiums should be tax deductible. Allow Health Savings Accounts for individuals. Block grants to states for Medicaid instead of cost sharing.

Hillary Clinton: Expand Obamacare with three free sick visits before the deductible kicks in. Tax credits for premiums and out of pocket expenses over 8.5% and 5% respectively. Expand Medicaid through 100% matching funds to states for three years and more funding for enrollment programs.

Immigration

Donald Trump: Build a wall on the Mexican border and get Mexico to pay for it. Allow legal Immigration. Triple the number of ICE officers, deport all criminal aliens, defund sanctuary cities, end birthright citizenship, and increase the prevailing wage for H1-B visas.

Hillary Clinton: Supports the Dream Act and a path to legalization for illegal immigrants which includes learning English and paying fines. Toughen penalties for hiring illegal immigrants. She voted for a fence along the Mexican border and supports Obama’s executive action.

Abortion

Donald Trump: At one time was pro-choice, but now is pro-life. He is favor of outlawing abortions, except in cases of rape, incest, or life of mother. Is supportive of non-abortion services provided by Planned Parenthood.

Hillary Clinton: Is a strong supporter of Roe v. Wade and does not oppose restrictions on late pregnancy abortions. Feels that judges should protect women’s rights. Was rated 100% by NARAL. Vehemently opposes defunding of Planned Parenthood.

This concludes part one of the series on where Donald Trump and Hillary stand on the issues. Over the next few days, I will continue the report on how these two presidential candidates differ. The website, diffen.com provided the information for this article. Thank you diffen.

1984 ARE WE THERE – PART THREE

Remember newspeak? It’s the fictional language in George Orwell’s novel, 1984. Newspeak was created by Mr. Orwell’s totalitarian state of Oceania as a tool to limit freedom of thought or what was commonly referred to in the novel as “thought crime.”

In order to maintain maximum control over the outer party, words and phrases were eliminated and replaced with inner party approved or politically correct verbiage.

The aim of newspeak is to remove all shades of meaning from language, leaving simple concepts that reinforce the total dominance of the state.

In the past forty or fifty years, many words, at the behest of the left have been considered politically incorrect to utter. These words were replaced by other words that the left considered acceptable and less offensive. One such example includes the words, “retarded” or “handicapped.” “Retarded” and “handicapped” have now been replaced with the word, “challenged.” We have the politically correct terms, physically challenged and mentally challenged, and to utter the words retarded or handicapped is considered offensive and language that shouldn’t ever be used. Perhaps the word, “challenged” is more acceptable and less demeaning, but we’ve come to a point where uttering either retarded or handicapped can get you in trouble with the left, sometimes to the point of losing your job and/or being socially ostracized.

Has a liberal ever asked you what you mean when you say, “Take our country back?” Of course, it means getting rid of the liberals and liberal philosophy that have been elected to office or appointed to certain governmental positions. When explaining that to a liberal, you may see a look of disappointment on their faces. They didn’t want to hear that, they wanted you to say that you wanted the strip Obama of the presidency because of the color of his skin. Because of the wishes of the left, the term “take our country back,” is now considered a buzz phrase for take our country back from its black president. Liberals decided this and it’s a lie!

Presidential candidate, Donald Trump’s campaign theme, “Make America Great Again,” is now considered racist. Liberals are insisting that it means take America back to before Civil Rights legislation was enacted (1964). That’s ridiculous and we all know it. But the liberals are pounding a racism connotation to Mr. Trump’s theme and the main stream media is running with it. Thus, those who are not particularly politically astute or don’t follow politics, opting instead to watch mindless TV such as “Dancing with the Stars,” have no choice but to believe that it’s true. The result is votes for Hillary.

Even using what the left considers improper in describing a person of color is labeled racism. The University of Alabama football team has had string of excellent running backs, all of them black.  A few years ago, one of these great running backs was referred to as a “beast.” He was. But the left tried to make that into something racist. Thankfully, they didn’t get far. Don’t you panty-waists interject yourselves into our football! You will regret it!

I don’t deal in buzz words or phrases, and when confronted with a liberal saying to you, “this is a buzzword for thus and so,” tell that liberal to take a hike.

Another good example of how liberals are attempting to force “newspeak” upon us is the renaming of “illegal aliens/immigrants” to “undocumented workers.” Even the conservative leaning media outlets are saying “undocumented workers.” While we all know that undocumented workers are nothing but illegal aliens or immigrants, liberals have repetitively forced this language on us to the extent that we hear it and think nothing about it or about using the new term ourselves. Furthermore, the left generally refuses to distinguish between legal immigrants who are here in this country legally and may be preparing for rightfully becoming U.S. citizens and illegal immigrants who have broken the law and entered this country illegally, but think they are entitled to the same benefits as all American citizens. With the left continually failing to make this distinction, people are once again being brainwashed into assuming that conservatives are against all forms of immigration. This is, of course, another leftist lie.

In 1984, the novel, the inner party was working to convert the language of the outer party in the region called, Oceania, from oldspeak to newspeak and had established a timeline of sixty or so years to do so.

While liberals claim to be advocates of tolerance and free thinking, it’s not true. In fact, nothing could be any further from the truth, unless your free thought aligns up with liberal thought. Is the left attempting to alter the way we talk and adopt a politically correct language such as newspeak? I’m giving you my opinion and you can decided.

CANDIDATES’ STANDS ON THE ISSUES

The website, ConservativeReview.com is the best site I’ve found for illustrating where the different Republican presidential candidates stand on the issues. The issues it lists are as follows:

  • Budget, Spending, and Debt
  • Civil Liberties
  • Education
  • Energy and Environment
  • Foreign Policy and Defense
  • Free Market
  • Health Care and Entitlements
  • Immigration
  • Moral Issues
  • Second Amendment
  • Taxes, Economy, and Trade

On the scorecard page, the website administrators give the candidates green, yellow, or red dots for their stand on each of the above issues. Green means good, yellow means mixed, and red means bad. For example, candidate Donald Trump was awarded a green dot for his stance on immigration because he wants to deport all illegals and build a wall on the United States/Mexico border. On the other hand, Mr. Trump is given a red dot on Free Market because he supports the seizure of private land for economic development by private investors, he supported President Obama’s 2009 stimulus package, and he supported TARP.

An eyeball review of the colored dots indicates that Ted Cruz is the most conservative, being awarded 10 green dots and 1 yellow dot. The yellow dot was for Free Market. Lindsey Graham looks to be the most liberal having been awarded 8 red dots, 3 yellow dots, and no green dots. Cruz and libertarian, Rand Paul were the only candidates who received no red dots. Jeb Bush and Carly Fiorina, and Lindsey Graham were the only candidates that did not receive a green dot.

Of the eight candidates that participated in the “primary debate” telecasted by Fox Business Network on November 10, Carly Fiorina was awarded the most red dots, 7.

By clicking on a dot under a particular candidates’ picture, you will be directed to a page with content outlining the details of each candidates’ stances.

Because we’ve all grown up with government provided safety nets and become used to them, no one is a pure conservative Furthermore, most of us are not in favor of eliminating government programs such as Social Security, Medicare, or unemployment compensation.

I’m not about to outline the details of the top eight candidates’ stances on all of the above issues. You can do that yourself. However, the following will give a brief description of Donald Trump’s and Dr. Ben Carson’s stances on the issues that are the most important to me and possibly to you, also.

Donald Trump

Healthcare/Entitlements: Has said, “I will fight to end Obamacare and replace it with something that makes sense for people in business and not bankrupt the country. However, he has advocated for universal healthcare in a system similar to the Canadian system and has indicated that our objective should be to make reforms for the moment and, longer term, to find an equivalent of the single-payer plan that is affordable, well-administered, and provides freedom of choice.

Energy/Environment: Believes that climate change is a hoax. Advocates utilizing America’s natural energy and oil resources. Supports fracking and nuclear energy. Opposes cap and trade policies. Did support the renewable fuel mandate.

Tax Plan: Reduces the top marginal rates on individuals from 39.6% to 25%. The plan has a bottom rate of 0%, a tax bracket for anyone making between $25 and $50 thousand. Reduce the corporate rate to 15%. Reduce capital gains and dividend taxes. Eliminate death tax.

Immigration: Wants to build a wall on our southern border and get Mexico to pay for it. Opposes amnesty for illegals. Supports ending the birthright citizenship loophole frequently employed by illegals. Said he would deport any Syrian refugees let into the United States by the Obama administration.

Foreign Policy: Sees Obama as a serious threat to Israel. Says he has an absolute way of defeating ISIS that would be decisive and quick, but wouldn’t do so until ISIS toppled Syrian dictator, Bashir al-Assad. Opposed nuclear talks with Iran. Opposed the second Iraq War. Made the case for not removing troops immediately from Iraq because of the potential for Iraq to become radicalized by Iran. Believes U.S. forces have no role in the Middle East.

Dr. Ben Carson

Healthcare/Entitlements: Has said that Obamacare is the worst thing that has happened in this nation since slavery. Supports health savings accounts and other free-market reforms in place of Obamacare. Believes that any fix to the long-term solvency of Social Security must start by gradually the age seniors become eligible for benefits based on the rise in life expectancy.

Energy/Environment: Opposes policies aimed at regulating climate change and supports increased energy production. Believes that developing our energy resources is a key component of world peace. Believes the EPA’s responsibilities should be focused on working with the private industry and academia to find the safest and cleanest ways to utilize our natural resources.

Tax Plans: Has proposed a ten percent flat tax based on the biblical concept of tithing. But has said that the 10% number is not necessarily the number he would propose. Has said that Obama is wrong that raising the minimum wage will reduce income inequality. Has said that he supports raising the minimum wage, a form of government wage controls. Proposed the democrat idea of indexing the minimum wage to inflation so that we never have to have this conversation again in the history of America. Opposed passing Trade Promotion Authority to give Obama fast-track authority.

Immigration: Supports a national guest-worker program. Said that immigration reform should start by ending 5incentives for illegal immigrants. When asked about a pathway to citizenship for the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants in 2013, he said, “of course allow illegal immigrants to have a pathway to citizenship.

Foreign Policy: Has indicated simplistically that the solution for combatting terrorism is not war, but ending our oil dependency on Arab states, stating, “the terrorists will be defunded, and that’s the way you get them.” Blames low morale and weakness in our current military on the sequester spending cuts. Strong supporter of Israel. Called the Iran deal the worst deal in American history. Has shown a lack of understanding of the way foreign governments work.

In subsequent posts, I will continue outlining candidates’ stances on these issues. However to obtain additional details, which you will surely need to determine which candidate gets your vote, visit the conservativereview.com site.

LAME DUCK – PART TWO

On August 24, liberal publication, Mother Jones, ran an article outlining things that the current president has done after January 2015 when he officially became a lame duck president. Of course, liberals think these things are great. The following is a discussion of five more of these items.

The current president successfully argued in favor of same-sex marriage before the Supreme Court: He did not. How can Mother Jones tell such a whopper? Of course he was against same-sex marriage when he was campaigning, but has now flip-flopped on the issue. The same-sex marriage ruling by the Supreme Court has put many Americans in direct conflict with their faith. We all know the story about the baker who would not bake a cake for a same-sex wedding. Instead of simply finding another baker, the couple, with the support of liberals, took steps to destroy the baker’s business. I have also seen some liberals calling for the firing of folks working at court houses who refuse to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. Americans shouldn’t have to choose between their livelihood and their faith. This ruling is a scourge.

The current president has put in place economic sanctions on Russia that have Vladimir Putin reeling: In December 2014, the current president said, through a spokesman, that he would sign newly passed legislation expanding measure intended to cordon off large Russian state firms from Western financing and technology while also providing $350 million in arms and military equipment to Ukraine as it battles a pro-Russian insurgency in its eastern regions. According to the New York Times, the president was not in favor of this legislation, but Congress passed the measure without opposition, making a veto politically untenable.

The current president pressured the FCC to approve net neutrality rules: According to thehill.com, a House appropriations bill released Wednesday would block the Federal Communication Commission from implementing its net neutrality rules until the courts weigh in on the issue. The rules, adopted earlier this year and supported by the current president reclassify Internet providers as utilities, and would prohibit broadband and mobile carriers from selectively blocking or slowing Web traffic. The rules also reclassify broadband as a regulated common-carrier service, instead of treating it as a lightly regulated information service, as the FCC has done for the past decade.

This government overreach measure is going to be tied up in the courts for a while. I wouldn’t exactly call this an accomplishment by the current administration.

Issued new EPA coal regulations: On Monday, June 29, 2015, the Supreme Court blocked one of the Obama administration’s most ambitious environmental initiatives, an EPA regulation meant to limit emissions of mercury and other toxic pollutants from coal-fired power plants.

Industry groups and about 20 states had challenged the EPA’s decision to regulate emissions, saying the agency had failed to take into account the punishing costs its rule would impose. This is from the New York Times.

This was certainly not good for the middle class/working class. Thank goodness the highest court in the land has blocked it. However, on August 3, 2015, the current president and the EPA announced the Clean Power Plan – a historic and important step in reducing carbon pollution from power plants that takes real action on climate change. Here we go again…war on the middle class/working class.

Issued an executive order on immigration: In June Judges Jennifer Walker Elrod and Jerry Smith dealt a significant blow to the current president’s executive actions on immigration. The judges will also play key roles in deciding whether the controversial programs are legally sound. This is a lawless executive order that is being held up in the courts.

The above is more of this president’s attempt to destroy the middle class and make it difficult on small businesses.
