THE NOVEL, 1984: ARE WE THERE? – PART FOUR

This is the last in a four part series of articles where I have illustrated how our society reflects many of the aspects of the society in the fictional novel, 1984, written by George Orwell. Part one demonstrated how the outer party attempted to “get into a person’s head” and extract his independent thoughts, which were forbidden. Part two mostly dwells with brainwashing and thought control. If the outer party says it, then it’s true. I used racism in this article to illustrate this concept. Part three discusses the concept of newspeak, the fictional language in Mr. Orwell’s novel, used to limit freedom of thought or thought crimes.

The Ministries of Love, Peace, Plenty, and Truth are ministries or agencies in 1984 where all public attention is focused on the figurehead, Big Brother.

The Ministry of Truth is involved with the news media, entertainment, the fine arts, and educational books. Its purpose is to rewrite history to change the facts to fit Party doctrine.

Rewrite history, does this sound familiar? For several decades not, the left has tried to squelch the teachings of certain segments of American history because having to learn certain things might be offensive to certain groups of people. Christopher Columbus, who discovered America, is now ostracized by the left for reasons including, but not limited to the following, according to deathandtaxesmag.com:

  • Columbus’ expedition virtually wiped out the Taino natives.
  • Columbus inaugurated the Age of Slavery in the Atlantic and Americas.
  • Columbus was the pimp of the New World.
  • Columbus and his men tortured the Tainos who resisted slavery.

The left has also proceeded to demonize the founding fathers of this nation and has done its best to see that teaching our children about the founding fathers is kept to a minimum and their flaws, including the ownership of slaves and the advocacy of slavery, is exposed.

In June, 2015, a young man, with the intent to kill, entered a historic church in Charleston, SC and began shooting, killing nine church members who were involved in Bible study. The murderer, Dylann Roof, was white and photos of him with the Confederate battle flag were found on social media. Uh-oh! Liberals went crazy, yelling at the top of their lungs that the Confederate battle flag should be banned, destroyed, with no vestiges of it left on the planet. This included any item containing an image of the flag, even something as small and unassuming as a belt buckle.

When conservatives, including many from the South, tried to explain that the Confederate flag was not necessarily a symbol of hate toward the black race, but also represented pride in one’s heritage, the open-minded, free-thinking, tolerant left would have nothing of it, pontificating that the Confederate battle flag was nothing but a symbol of racism, slavery, and hate. There was only one side and that was the side of the “tolerant” left.

Over the next several weeks following the Charleston shooting, attempts were made to take down statutes of Confederate leaders, including many who fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War. In many places, statutes honoring Confederate leaders been removed, while some efforts have been thwarted and are presently hung up in the courts.

There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that the left wishes to change history. Thankfully it’s not as easy to do as it was in 1984, the novel.

The Ministry of Truth was also responsible for news and information fed to the party members as well as the proles (non-party members looked down upon by those in government). There was no such thing as an independent media. Freedom of the press was an antiquated obsolete concept that had been done away with in its entirety. While public radio and television, plus government Internet sites represent examples of state-run media, we do still have some remnants of a free and independent press. According to breitbart.com, President Barak Obama, in a speech where he was ripping Fox News, made the following comment: “Speaking of Fox News, the poor, and the way GOP leaders think, we’re going to have to change how our body politic thinks, which means we’re going to have to change how the media reports on these issues.”

The above should horrifically frighten every man and women in this nation. In addition to hinting at the possible elimination of freedom of the press, Obama is also advocating thought control and his words could possibly construed to advocating the elimination of free thinking. This is scary stuff.

1984’s Ministry of Truth is also in charge of eliminating documents, particularly historical documents, which don’t fit the outer party’s political philosophy. Books that do not meet the party’s approval are also eliminated. The ministry has ways of destroying these documents and books whereby no copy can ever be found plus the existence and content of these documents and books are fully eliminated from everyone’s brain.

Another ministry or agency in 1984, the novel, is the Ministry of Plenty. This ministry controlled the food and water supply of the country, Airstrip One, and possibly the entire region of Oceania. The food and beverages were not palatable and were designed only to keep the people alive. The rations doled out could not possibly maximize body and brain function. Could it be that the people were somewhat mind-numbed where independent thought and memory were diminished?

Along with city and state governments, the U.S. government has made head-ways into dictating what Americans should eat. They do it under the guise of proper nutrition and healthy lifestyles. But think about the pitiful school lunches that our schools are serving up to our children. Can these children possibly function mentally and physically with such meager lunches? Could this possibly be the advent of total government control over what we eat?

While this article will be my last in this series, I feel as though I have barely scratched the surface with respect to the parallels of the novel, 1984, and the events and policies of today, events and policies that have been advocated by the left. Is there enough information out there to fill up a novel? Might be worth a shot.

GUN CONTROL LAWS

Every time there is an incident of gun violence in this nation, especially when the incident involves a white shooter, shooting blacks, the current President of the United States weighs in on the matter and indicates the need for more gun control laws. Surprise, Mr. President! We have Federal Firearms Laws. Also, each state has their own set of gun control laws. Of course, the President’s followers/worshippers holler out, “More gun control, more gun control.”

While I can’t possibly summarize the Federal gun control laws, I’ll briefly highlight a few of them in the following paragraphs.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed (the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution).

In 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court held in District of Columbia v. Heller that the Second Amendment prohibits the Federal government from passing laws prohibiting an individual’s right to possess a hand gun in the home and requiring any firearms in the home to be inoperable during possession.

In 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court held in McDonald v. Chicago, that the Second Amendment through the Fourteenth Amendment also prohibits States and political subdivisions from prohibiting an individual’s right to possess a hand gun in the house, but as in Heller, state laws may restrict the possession of firearms by felons, etc.

This section goes on the Define a firearm.

A person is entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from one state where his firearms’ possession is legal to another state where his firearms’ possession is legal. The firearms may not be seized by the local police if: The firearm the firearm is unloaded and the firearm or any ammo being transported is readily or directly accessible from the passenger compartment. In the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment, the firearm and ammo shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console.

Long Gun Possession (rifle or shotgun): a person of any age may possess a long gun.

Hand Gun Possession: A person under 18 years of age may not possess a handgun or handgun only ammo.

A person may not purchase a handgun from a licensed gun dealer whose premises are located in a state where the buyer does not reside. It is a felony violation to knowingly make a false statement or show false identification to a licensed gun dealer. A potential purchaser must state of Form 4473 his name, address, date of birth, place of birth, height, weight, gender, race, prohibited person status and sign it.

The licensed gun dealer must notify the FBI or state authorities of the purchaser’s identification so a criminal background check can be completed before the firearm is transferred.

Indictment or information for a felony: Such a person has restrictions paced on his firearms activity. He may continue to lawfully possess the firearms and ammunition he already has, but may not ship or take them across state lines and may not acquire more firearms or ammunition affecting interstate commerce.

The above showcases very few of our Federal gun laws. To thoroughly review Federal gun law, you can visit: http://www.fedcoplaw.com/html/federal_firearms_laws.html.

On top of the Federal gun laws, each state has its own set of gun laws. The following will summarize the gun laws for the state of Alabama, my state.

With some exceptions, the open carry of firearms is lawful. It is unlawful to carry a concealed pistol, firearm, or air gun without a permit. It is unlawful for a person to carry a pistol concealed about his person on premises not his own or under his control. It is unlawful to carry a rifle or shotgun walking cane.

No state permit is required to possess a rifle, shotgun, or handgun. It is unlawful for a drug addict, habitual drunkard, or one who has been convicted of a crime of violence to own or possess a handgun. Law enforcement authorities have advised that minors cannot carry or possess a handgun.

It is unlawful to sell, give, lend or deliver a handgun to any person under 18, or to a person whom the seller has reasonable cause to believe has been convicted of a crime of violence, is a drug addict, a habitual drunkard, or of unsound mind.

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley has signed comprehensive pro-gun legislation. As of May 26, 2015, the Alabama State Senate passed a bill that would allow gun owners to carry and transport loaded handguns in their vehicle without a concealed carry permit.

The following will summarize the gun laws for the state of Illinois. It is unlawful to carry or possess any firearm in any vehicle or concealed on or about the person, except on one’s land or in one’s abode or fixed place of business, without a license. It is unlawful to possess any firearm or ammunition without a valid FOID (Firearms Owner’s Identification Card).A buyer is required to show his FOID when purchasing any firearms or ammunition. The seller must retain for 10 years, a record of the transfer, including a description of the firearm, the identity of the buyer, and the buyer’s FOID number. It is unlawful to sell, manufacture, purchase, possess or carry any weapon from which more than one shat may be discharged by a single function of the trigger, including the frame or receiver of any such weapon.

As one can readily see, gun laws are substantially stricter in Illinois when compared to Alabama. In the city of Chicago, Illinois, guns are illegal and Chicago has some of the worst gun violence cases in the United States.

Whenever a shooting takes place such as the recent shooting in Charleston, S.C. of nine church members inside the Emanuel AME Church, liberals always blame guns and demand more gun control laws. Well, in Charleston, liberals also blamed the Confederate flag for that shooting. Last week, I was one of two or maybe three conservatives involved in a Facebook discussion on gun control where a liberal FB friend of a liberal FB friend posted a photo denigrating what they say is record profits by gun manufacturers. It’s certainly understandable why gun manufacturers are making record profits.

People want to get their guns while they still can. The liberals seemed to think that there were no gun control laws in the United States with the reason being that the current president has been blocked from instituting meaningful gun control legislation because the Republican-majority Congress will not pass gun control laws.

It’s really amazing what liberals say, isn’t it?

REASONABLE DISCUSSIONS WITH LIBERALS – HOW OXYMORONIC IS THAT?

Conservative Icon, Ann Coulter, has written many books about liberals. One of them is entitled, “How to Talk to a Liberal if You Must.” It was released in 2004 and I can’t remember for the life of me if I’ve read it, and trying to find it in my vast book collection is not on my current list of things to do.

Every boss I’ve ever had has told me that I lacked self-confidence and I do. One even said that he had more confidence in me than I had in me. I also have a tendency to let people take advantage of me or “roll over me.” The lack of self-confidence dates back to my early childhood years. Letting people “roll over me” or take advantage of me comes from being an only child. Not having siblings, I never learned the skill of taking up for myself.

Lacking self-confidence and letting others take advantage of me does not a political blogger/pundit make. I don’t blame family and friends who I grew up around for my short comings. It is what it is and I just have to try a little harder.

The first time I was attacked by a liberal after setting myself out as a political blogger, I was very upset. I realized, though, that as long as I put my feelings and opinions out there, I would be subject to more attacks. Could I stand the heat or did I need to get out of the kitchen. Now, over a year and a half later, I’m still blogging, but do have to remind myself that my stand on the issues is solid and liberal stands on the issues can be refuted.

Liberals think they’re so smart. In fact, most educators/academicians are liberal. That includes your elementary school teachers all the way up to those with doctorates who occupy the ivory towers of institutions of higher education.

Since becoming a political blogger and a utilizer of social media, I have had encounters with numerous liberals. If they’re so smart and so much better than us unenlightened oafs, how come they can’t read something and understand its meaning. I often post something, only to have a liberal make comments that are unrelated to the subject of the post. Sometimes I will have to ask them to go back and re-read what I said.

Liberals also love to accuse conservatives/Republicans of hating minorities and the poor. I can and do regularly deep-six those accusations. It isn’t hard to do.

I’ve also had experiences where I wasn’t discussing politics at all, only to have a liberal inject themselves in a conversation because he or she heard some kind of buzzword or phrase that they didn’t like. When this happens, I never fail to point out that the conversation or thread had nothing to do with a political concept. This is again, an example of liberals not being able to comprehend what is written or said.

Talk about short memories; “liberals, they got em.” On June 17, 2015, a lone gunman who was a known racist and had been pictured in a photo holding up a Confederate battle flag, shot and killed nine black members of a Charleston, South Carolina church. All of a sudden the responsibility for the shooting did not lie with a deranged young man, the responsibility, instead, was the fault of the Confederate flag. Liberals, in their ever continuing rush to judgment, started demanding that Confederate flags cease flying over government buildings. Of course, removing a few flags from a few southern state capitals was not going to satisfy them. They began attacking statutes of military men who fought valiantly for the South. Then, the Atlanta chapter of the NAACP demanded that the historic carving on Stone Mountain, just outside of Atlanta, showcasing Robert E. Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Stonewall Jackson be sanded away. That struck a nerve with me and apparently it stuck a nerve with a lot of people.

The City of Birmingham has voted to remove a monument honoring Confederate soldiers and sailors who died during the Civil War.

On Monday, July 15, 2015, nine Alabama state senators introduced a bill at the beginning of a special legislative session that is designed to protect monuments on publicly owned property. The bill would outlaw the removal or relation of any statute or monument on public property honoring individuals or groups which participated in seventeen different military campaigns. Any group that wants to be exempt from the law would have to get permission from the Alabama Historical Commission. So, the state of Alabama is scrambling to keep the Feds and their wrecking balls from descending upon us and destroying history. I don’t know if other southern states are following suit. This is all well and good, but with the way the current dictator is taking us, those wrecking balls may be headed this way and states’ rights and the U.S. Constitution be damned.

Now, an alleged Islamic terrorist has killed five Marines in Chattanooga and I’ve heard very little talk regarding whether or not we should get rid of all symbols and statutes relating to Islam. Liberals who claim to be fair-minded and caring aren’t saying a word. While both liberals and conservatives lamented the shooting of the nine Charlestonians, I haven’t seen one liberal condemn the shooting. Instead, they are playing a waiting game to see how the investigation plays out. They didn’t do this in the shooting of Michael Brown of Ferguson, Missouri, nor did they do this in the death of Freddie Gray of Baltimore.

The current President has often lectured the American people, stating that we should not judge the religion of Islam by the acts of a few, but I haven’t heard him say anything about not judging southerners by the actions of one who was obviously deranged.

Could liberalism be a pre-cursor to Alzheimer’s? Ann’s book was published in 2004. Maybe I should read it or re-read it.

THEY’RE VULTURES, THEY’RE NOTHING BUT VULTURES

In just hours after the tragic shooting that killed nine members of the Emanuel AME Church inside the church in Charleston, the current president was on TV telling us we needed to stop gun violence in this nation and that we needed stricter gun laws. He also indicated that no other advanced country had these types of shootings. That statement since has been proven a lie.

Rahm Emanuel, former White House Chief of Staff and current Mayor of Chicago, and other prominent liberals have said many times, “Never let a good crisis go to waste.” And the liberals most certainly have swooped in on this tragedy and started the blame game. There’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that the killing of these innocent people was racially motivated by an individual that had a hatred for blacks. Since the motivation of the killer was established, liberals have blamed Fox News, white people, Christians, the Confederate battle flag, and conservatives. While I didn’t hear this, I’m sure that Rush Limbaugh and conservative talk radio was also blamed.

Dylann Roof, the twenty-one year old who shot the nine victims is to blame for the killings. The Confederate battle flag didn’t do it, Fox News didn’t do it, Southern white conservative Christians didn’t do it, Rush Limbaugh didn’t do it, and conservative talk radio didn’t do it. I’m continuing to stick to my statement that the current president and liberals have blood on their hands because this president, along with his liberal henchmen have exacerbated racial tensions in this country, seeking to divide the American people on everything they possibly can…race, class, education, location, etc.

I know everyone wants to know my opinion on the flying of the Confederate battle flag and I don’t really have one. I understand both sides. What I do have an opinion about is the way those who wish the Confederate battle flag to remain flying are treated. In an al.com article, the author indicated that we should allow folks to fly the Confederate battle flag in their yards, place it in the back window of their pickup trucks, and wear it as a belt buckle because this would single out the most dangerous folks on the planet. The most dangerous folks on the planet? Not hardly!

Liberals are also blaming the killings on white privilege and white supremacy. The claim and continue to claim that white people are inherently racist. Does that mean you, white liberal, are a racist? I guess some white liberals, who believe that they are racist and engage in self-flagellation, and some white liberals who think they’re so perfect and so smart that they don’t have a racist bone in their body. But when Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, or Fox News is mentioned, they want to kill Rush and Sean slow and painfully plus they want Fox News off the air and they call anyone who watches Fox news names that I won’t repeat here.

Fox News is the number one cable news network in America and liberals hate it and hate those who watch it. Since Fox is number one, why don’t you liberals make more appearances on Fox and explain your points of view? Maybe you might convince some folks to come over to your side. But no, you liberals would rather hate Fox News and hate those who watch it rather than do something that might be productive.

I’m not saying conservatives like myself are perfect. I’m far from it. I misspeak, I sometimes jump to conclusions before doing research, and I sometimes get my facts wrong. And you liberals are the first to point it out to me, sometimes even attacking me. And it’s funny, you were willing to forgive the late Senator Robert Byrd, Democrat from West Virginia, for being a member of the KKK and saying the N-word on the Senate floor, but you are unwilling to forgive a conservative for a simple misspelling or grammatical error, much less for jumping to a conclusion before having the facts. And that’s weird, because you liberals don’t care about facts nor do you care about the truth.

You are the haters, the liars, the racists, the bigots, and the homophobes. I’ve done my research on this and I’m sticking to my story. And as the title of this post indicates, you never miss an opportunity to swoop down on a tragedy such as the Emanuel AME Church of Charleston tragedy to seek to disparage those of us who you hate and to put blame on those of us who you hate to further your political agenda.

Wouldn’t it be easier to go on Fox News or to respond to my blog posts with facts to shore up your beliefs? I think it would be easier and more productive, but it seems you would rather hate and spew your demented liberal logic.

ONCE AGAIN, LIBERALS, INCLUDING THE PRESIDENT HAVE BLOOD ON THEIR HANDS

According to Flypaper, Obama has blood on his hands for escalating racial tensions in the nation and inciting violence such as the church shooting that tragically claimed nine innocent lives on Wednesday evening, June 17, 2015 in Charleston, South Carolina. I’ve had a busy week and when I heard about the shooting at the historic church, I was very upset. I didn’t rush online to get the details because I knew they would there for me when I had time to read the articles. I wasn’t concerned with the skin color of the victims nor the skin color of the shooter. It didn’t matter to me. People in a church just seven hours by automobile from where I live were killed by some thug.

Fast forward to Thursday afternoon when I was on Facebook. There are links to articles where the current president was doing his usual pontificating about the need for more gun control. Here we go again, I thought. I linked to Rush Limbaugh’s transcript regarding the shootings where Rush was talking about the media rushing to judgment and immediately advocating the need for more gun control. Rush didn’t mention that the church was a historic black church.

When I returned to my Facebook homepage, a Friend had shared a post asking everyone to pray for the members of the Charleston A.M.E. church who had lost their lives in a shooting. It was only at this time I learned that the victims of the shooting were black. A.M.E. stands for African Methodist Episcopal (I think). Again, their skin color didn’t matter. I knew the shooter had been caught, but I still didn’t know the color of his skin, nor did I care. Although, I did suspect he was probably white because an attorney who I used to work with did indicated to me that statistically blacks don’t generally go into public places and start shooting, but whites generally do. And over the years, I’ve observed that to be true. So, it was just a couple of hours ago, that I learned that the church where the shooting took place was a historically black church and the shooter was white, and the victims were black.

I’m now reviewing an article on al.com indicating that an agency that tracks extremists and white supremacist organizations says the suspect in the fatal shooting wasn’t known to officials there. Also, the president of the Southern Poverty Law Center, which, in my opinion is a liberal hate group, has said that the suspect was also not known to the organization.

So, within less than twenty-four hours, it’s being speculated that the shooter was some sort of white supremacist and whether or not he is connected to any of the sixteen white supremacist organizations operating in South Carolina.

Richard Cohen, the president of the Southern Poverty Law Center goes on to say that after visiting the suspect’s Facebook page, he saw a picture where the suspect was wearing a jacket with emblems of the old apartheid regime in South Africa and the former African nation of Rhodesia, which was the name of Zimbabwe under white rule.

Kyle Campbell, a student at the University of Alabama and state president of the Alabama College Democrats has already come out and said this is a race issue. Did suspect Dylann Roof shoot these people just because they were black and he doesn’t like blacks? That is currently being speculated.

Fifty-two years after Dr. Martin Luther King’s I Have a Dream speech, whether or not race was involved in this tragedy shouldn’t be an issue. What should be an issue is that an obviously disturbed individual entered a church in Charleston, South Carolina and prayed along with others in the church. Then the disturbed individual took out a gun and started firing it and killed nine innocent people.

In Dr. King’s speech, he had dream that one day the ancestors of former slaves and former slave owners would sit side by side at the table of brotherhood and that one day his four little children would be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Fifty-two years later, the dream has not been fulfilled and do you know why? It’s because of the liberals/Democrats/progressives or whatever they want to call themselves now days. The programs they have introduced since the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed such as Affirmative Action, Black Power, Critical Race Theory, etc. have served to further segregate the races and kept blacks from fulfilling their potential while increasing racial tensions in this nation.

In an earlier post, I said that the blood of Tamir Rice was on the hands liberals/Democrats/progressives, and now the blood of these nine victims is also on the hands of liberals/Democrats/progressives.

Could all this speculation about race signal the beginning of something? Could it be that, one of these days, if I’m in a crowded mall and accidently step on the toe of someone black, will the incident automatically be labeled as racially motivated? I don’t like some of the things I’m hearing from some of the black/charlatan leaders such as Al Sharpton. There is a war on white people in this nation and I’m concerned about this. In fact, I’m concerned about many things going on in this nation. Will Dr. King’s dreams ever be realized? It doesn’t look that way. Ask a liberal why and they’ll tell you it is because whites/Republicans are racist bigots. But they are WRONG!

My dream is for liberals/Democrats/progressives to look at the enemy and discover that the enemy is them.
