THE TRUTH ABOUT INSURANCE

With cleanup and rescue efforts still ongoing in parts of Louisiana, the topic of insurance coverage for floods has been discussed widely on social media and in the general media. As I read commentary, I’m noticing more and more that people are surprised, perhaps shocked that flood damage to many of the houses is not covered by insurance. To put it bluntly, these folks are on their own, with many losing virtually everything.

Having spent all but about ten years of my corporate America career working for insurance companies, not only in claims, but also in IT, I can tell you that insurance is not a welfare program, it’s a business. People pay insurance premiums, the insurance company collects those premiums and invests portions in order to earn a rate of return. Depending on how the company decides who is and who isn’t an insurable risk, they shouldn’t have to pay claims for every risk they insure. If the premiums collected exceed the amount in losses paid out, the company has made an underwriting profit. But this isn’t always the case. Sometimes wise investments enable the company to be profitable, and some years, companies do lose money. Of course, we’re all aware that like all other industries, insurance companies do go out of business. I indicated above that insurance is not a welfare program. A poor person is not entitled to more claims’ money that a rich person incurring the same type of loss.

Do people cheat insurance companies and get by with it? Absolutely. I did it once when I was in college. It was the classic fender-bender where the at fault party’s insurer told me to send them two estimates and they would issue s check to me for the lower amount. I got three estimates, forwarded the two highest estimates to the insurer and had the vehicle repaired at the place that gave me the lowest estimate. While this is perfectly legal, it does increase premiums.

Here is a link to an article that explains the reasoning behind private insurance companies’ not covering losses due to flood damage. It also explains the National Flood Insurance Program. Flood Insurance: The Homeowner’s Guide. Flood Insurance: The Homeowner’s Guide

When a tornado or straight line winds whip through areas, not every dwelling or building is going to incur damages and not all dwellings are going to incur the same type and amount of damages. But when water rises, all dwelling and buildings in the water’s path are going to be damaged severely and most like rendered a total loss. Covering flood damage is just not profitable.

I’ve heard it said that the Louisiana flooding is a once in a thousand year event. Should those people have had flood insurance through the National Flood Insurance Program? I don’t know, hindsight’s 20/20. Most people don’t have it. I don’t because I live on the side of a hill.
Again, insurance is a business, not an entitlement program. Going forward, I hope all will keep that in mind when procuring insurance for your vehicles, your dwelling(s), your businesses, your health, and even your life.

BILES AND DOUGLAS NOT FIRST BLACK GYMNASTS

I’m seeing a lot of posts and feeds on FB regarding this year’s Olympics, most of which, I don’t like. And many folks share my views.

If I didn’t know better, I’d think this was the first time that black athletes were allowed to participate in the Olympics, or even the first time blacks were able to participate in sports.

Probably the best gymnast I’ve ever watched is Olympic champion Simone Biles. I can safely say this because I follow one of the great gymnastics’ dynasties, the University of Alabama Gymtide. The posts on FB page, “Because of them we can by Enrique Jones” have particularly gotten on my nerves. The posts from this page and other posts would have you think that Simone Biles and Gabby Douglas were the first black gymnasts to ever compete for honors, and that their efforts are paving the way for the next round of black gymnasts.

SimoneBiles

Long before I started my Alabama sports website, I was following Alabama Gymnastics. The Tide won its first national title in 1988. Since then, the Gymtide has won national titles in 1991, 1996, 2002, 2011, and 2012. Many of the gymnasts on the Alabama  teams were black. Through research, I was able to obtain the names of the black women that participated from 2008 forward: Morgan Dennis, Ashley O’Neal, Ashley Sledge, Hunter Dennis, Diandra Milliner, Carley Sims, Katie Bentley, Aja Sims, Kayla Williams, and Kiana Winston. Unfortunately, prior to 2008, I wasn’t able to obtain any names, but do recall Dee Dee Foster, Andrea Pickens, and Ashley Miles. There were more, but I just don’t remember their names. In addition to excelling on the vault, the bars, the beam, and the floor, these gymnasts, along with their teammates excelled in the class room as well. Most of them had GPA’s of 3.0 or better.

Another post that appeared on my news feed showed a picture of the U.S. Olympic Gymnastics team and commented on the diversity of the ladies (two are black, one is Jewish, one is Hispanic, and I think the other is white/Christian). The post read as follows: “This, this is the America that’s on her way, just around the corner. Black, Hispanic, white, Jewish…confident not in spite of her diversity, but because of it.” This poster says to me that America is new to this diversity and inclusion game, but, we’re just about ready to turn the corner. You would think this was 1970 instead of the second decade of the 21st century and a generation after Civil Rights and the Women’s Movements.

So much progress has been made by “other than white males” since the barriers were lifted, but it seems that the left is trying to brainwash us into thinking we’re no better off than we were prior to 1964. That’s and I will call it out when I see it. To imply that America is about ready to turn the corner is wrong. We turned that corner long ago. In 2008, the United States elected its first black president, then re-elected him in 2012. With only 13% of the American population being black, Barak Obama had to have a substantial number of white votes to get elected. Not only have we turned the corner, but we continue to run round and round the block. Is there room for improvement and room to grow? Absolutely! Will we ever be a nation without racism or prejudice? No, because this world will never be a perfect one. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, and will continue to do so until that one fine day when Jesus returns  and sets up his 1000 year kingdom on earth.

IMPRESSIONS OF OBAMA’S SPEECH

Next UN Secretary General?

Obama is always wrong

In Obama’s speech in 2004 to the attendees at the Democrat National Convention, State Senator Barak Obama, in a fiery speech that had the Democrats slobbering all over themselves, stated that there was no liberal America, no conservative America, no black America, no white America, there is only one America.

Fast forward to the present where he has slightly less than six months to serve as president of the United States, and the citizens of this nation are more divided than ever. We’re divided not only on political and racial lines, we’re divided along socio-economic lines, and religious lines. He has continually played the race card, involving himself in local level disputes such as the ones involving Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr., a former professor at Harvard University, a black man and a white policy officer, James Crowley. Without knowing all the facts, Obama came out against the white police officer. I thought he was supposed to be a president to all the people, and that we didn’t have a white America or a black America.

During Wednesday night’s speech, he indicated that he was filled with faith in America and possessed much optimism about America’s future. That’s not how he felt when he first took office and shortly thereafter went on the “apology tour” in order to apologize for what he perceived was wrong with this country.

In Obama’s speech, he,  of course, talked about his signature legislation, Obamacare, saying that access to health care was now a right, not just a privilege for the wealthy. Excuse me! Millions of folks were covered for reasonable amounts through their employers. And while purchasing health insurance on your own cost about 2-1/2 times what you paid if your employer provided coverage, it wasn’t near as expensive as it is now if you’re not covered by a group plan. Obama further stated that millions more people were now covered. Not in my scope. While I know of maybe one or two folks who have been able to purchase health insurance because they were previously denied due to pre-existing conditions, I know a lot more who are not covered because they can’t afford to purchase coverage or they can only afford to purchase coverage with deductibles so high that if something catastrophic occurred, they would take a big hit or face financial ruin.

Next, the president indicated that we are on our way to weaning ourselves off of foreign oil. Yes we are, but it is nothing that you did. In fact, you and your liberal henchmen fought this. It was the oil companies/the private sector that developed “fracking,” an innovation which allows oil and natural gas to be removed from the ground in an environmentally safe manner. The extraction of oil and natural gas via fracking was only allowed on private lands, not government lands. Thus, the private sector was able to pull this off and cause decreases in the price of oil and natural gas. If this president were to have had his way, we would be making feeble, if not failed efforts to rely on unreliable and expensive green energy. We’d all be either freezing or burning up. Plus, lower and middle income individuals would be hurt by having to spend more of their hard earned money on heating and cooling their houses and gas for their vehicles.

He also claimed to have shut down Iran’s nuclear weapons’ program. A BOLD-FACED LIE! Then he indicated that as a country, we have never been more secure. THE GREATEST THREAT TO OUR NATION’S SECURITY IS ISIS AND OTHER ISLAMIC TERRORIST GROUPS! He also talked about God, but has continuously denigrated Christians who he claims do nothing but cling to their guns and to their Bibles.

At one point in the speech, he indicated that Democrats and Republicans do have their differences and that these differences is what keeps this country moving. However, he has done nothing but trash Republicans and blame the congressional Republicans for his failures.

In Obama’s speech, he says he loves this country. There’s no way that I’m believing this. Like I said above, he went on that apology tour during his first term in office and has never championed American exceptionalism. He and congressional Democrats pushed through, using every legislative trick in the book, the most insidious piece of legislation that has ever been wrought on the American people, Obamacare. He has also refused to define this country’s number one threat, Islamic terrorism. Whenever there’s an attack carried out by an Islamic terrorists(s), he blames it on guns and further seeks to pass stricter gun laws which will make it harder for law-abiding Americans to purchase firearms, but will do nothing to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

Another thing Obama indicated was that America is more respected in the world now than it was eight years ago. BS! Another lie. He also said that America is a great nation. When did he change his mind? Saying that the crime rate in this nation has gone down is another lie.

He further talked about the founding fathers and government by the people, indicating that the American people don’t want to be ruled. He’s consistently trashed the constitution and has indicated that it was an outdated document that got in his way. Maybe he determined that after his “I got a phone and I got a pen, and I’ll go around Congress to do whatever I want to do” rant. This was not exactly met with affection.

He talked about his grandparents in Kansas City, and the values that they taught him as a youth. I was just waiting for him to describe his grandmother as a “typical white woman.” One of these values was hard work, but he’s no advocate of hard work and sacrifice. All he, Hillary, and the rest of the Democrats desire is to have as many people as possible living off of the government dole.

While about half of his speech was dedicated to him and his non-accomplishments, he did eventually get to his endorsement of Democrat nominee, Hillary Clinton.

He stated that Hillary Clinton never quits on anything. But what about Ambassador Chris Stevens, Information Officer, Sean Smith, and CIA operatives, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods?

He also claims that no one has ever been more qualified to run for president than Hillary Clinton. WHAT A LIE! So unfathomable. He further indicated that Hillary is respected around the world. How can anyone be so gullible to believe that? He also indicated that Hillary is a friend of the working population. BS! Neither Hillary nor Obama are “friends of the common man.” See my comments above.

He told those in the arena and those watching or listening elsewhere that Hillary would continue to honor our police officers, as he had done. He’s never honored our police officers. All he’s done is interject himself into local matters and giving his opinions before he had the facts. I read in a book, authored by a former Secret Service agent, that while First Lady, she referred to the Secret Service as “dressed pigs.”

He went on to elaborate that Hillary is a “change-maker,” and forgets no one. Of course, we all know what BS that is.

During the course of the speech, he often attacked Donald Trump, and it was brought to my attention during the post-speech commentary that it is not custom and practice for a sitting president to attack the nominee of the other party during his party’s convention. Well, guess what? He’s breached every protocol of the office of the presidency. What else is new?

In summary, Obama spent half or maybe more than half of the speech singing his accolades. By the time he got to Hillary, I was already getting tired. But the common theme running through the speech seemed to indicate that he now loves his country when he once hated it and that the country is great, but he hasn’t always thought so. Does he really think this country is now great because of all the things he has done? Could be. The Democrats all think so.

Do I think that Hillary picked up votes because of Obama’s speech? Maybe a few. Maybe I’m naïve, but I still have some faith in the American people that they are going to Hillary, Obama, and the Democrats for what they are, and while Donald Trump was not my first choice for Republican nominee, Obama has come pretty close to destroying this country and electing Hillary to the presidency will certainly finish it off.

CHICAGO SHOOTINGS OVER FATHER’S DAY WEEKEND

According to youngcons.com, there were 13 dead and 55 shot in Chicago shootings over Father’s Day weekend.

Because of the Orlando shootings, liberals are on one of their anti-gun kicks again, calling for gun control, bans on assault weapons, yada, yada, yada. What more proof do liberals need that strict gun control laws do nothing to stop violent criminals from killing people? 13 Dead, 55 Shot in Chicago Over Father’s Day Weekend.

According to MSN, Chicago recorded its 300th homicide this weekend (homicides for the year?) and added six others over a 60 hour period that saw 55 people shot, 13 fatally, from Friday afternoon through early Monday morning.

So far this year, close to 1800 people have been shot across the city and more than 200 of those wounded have died from their wounds, according to records kept by the Chicago Tribune. A total of 306 people have been killed this year by shooting, stabbing, or other means.

A three-year-old boy was among the wounded who survived the weekend Chicago shootings. Police said that he was in critical condition after being shot in the right shoulder in the Woodlawn neighborhood at 6:15 pm on Sunday. The boy was in a car seat when an unknown attacker fired shots at the car.

So, President Obama, Oprah Winfrey, how is gun control working in your hometown? Attorney General Lynch, Reverend Al Sharpton, just how is gun control working?

Yesterday, a liberal Facebook friend posted on how she loved the city of Chicago, but was lamenting about the shootings and deaths this past weekend (Father’s Day weekend). She was saying something’s wrong, something’s got to be done. One of the commenters to her post indicated that we had to stop the hate. This particular Facebook friend is in show business and also happens to be black.

While I’ve known about the many shootings in Chicago for years, it sure sounded like my FB friend was just discovering this. While information on skin color was not indicated in the article on youngcons.com, majority of the crime taking place on the weekends in the south side of Chicago, is black on black crime and gang related.

I commented on my friend’s post indicating that these shootings have historically been black on black and gang related. I also indicated that Chicago has some of the most stringent gun laws in the nation and opined that having an armed populace would certainly diminish the number of shootings. I also stated that if this country’s so-called black leaders should concentrate on the problems in Chicago and the many Chicago shootings and similar scenarios in other U.S. cities instead of encouraging rioting and looting for those isolated incidents when somebody white shoots somebody black, the number of shootings would decrease. Immediately after I posted my comment, someone else agreed with me and asked the whereabouts of the Reverend Al Sharpton and Oprah Winfrey, a Chicago resident.

Within five minutes our comments had been deleted from my liberal FB friend’s post. Guess she didn’t like what we had to say. Did she not like my comment about Chicago having some of the most restrictive gun control laws in the nation? Did she not like what I said about the shootings in Chicago shootings being mostly black on black and gang related? Did she not like what I said when I indicated that the nation’s so-called black leaders needed to pay more attention to the scenarios in Chicago and elsewhere instead of encouraging looting and rioting when someone white kills someone black? I suspect she was unhappy with everything I posted, but I suspect that what actually got my commented deleted was my comment about black on black crime and the actions of the black leaders.

Until we can properly address an issue and “tell it like it is,” we’re not going to be able to solve it. But do the liberals really want the crime issue in Chicago solved? I tend to think not. Liberals just want to gain as much control over our lives as possible, and are willing to take that control in small bites until one day when we wake up and find that all of our freedoms have been stripped from us.

Going back to black on black crime, liberals, including black liberals, just don’t seem to care about it. In the early 1980s, someone was killing black children in Atlanta. Just knowing the killer was someone white, the black leaders giving emotional speeches, gathering the troops together, and gearing up for large demonstrations against the white community. When the killer turned out to be black, everything was dropped, the outrage no longer existed. It appeared that the black community didn’t care about blacks killing blacks back then and they still don’t. Until that changes, blacks are going to continue to die at the hands of other blacks. And that’s disturbing to this white conservative blogger.

Am I going to be called a racist for my  comments? I’m sure I will, but it won’t be the first time. Do I think my comments were racist? Maybe a little, but I want this problem solved, and that’s more than I can say for liberals.

ENRAGED AT THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES

I just finished listening to the Barak Obama’s speech that he gave in Orlando yesterday. And never in my entire life have I been so enraged at the president of the United States. The speech was wrong, so wrong. It was abominable. Up until Barak Obama assumed the office of the President of the United States, I felt safe and secure from attacks from foreign enemies. Now I don’t. Even in my central Alabama/Birmingham area bedroom community of Pelham, I don’t feel safe.

The root cause of the Orlando mass shooting is Islamic Terrorism.  The shooting was carried out by an individual with ties to ISIS. One of the caveats of Islam is to put homosexuals to death. The shooting took place in a downtown Orlando nightclub whose patrons are primarily members of the LGBT community.

To stop the scourge of similar attacks on America soil, we must go after ISIS and other Islamic terrorist groups and destroy them.

We must cut off the head of the snakes. But no, the current president and his liberal henchmen are suggesting that we, here in the United States, are responsible for this tragedy due to our gun control policies.

According to Rush Limbaugh (and I know you liberals hate him), after the Orlando shooting, Obama said, “ISIL is under more pressure than ever before. ISIL continues to lose ground in Iraq. All told, ISIL has now lost nearly half the populated territory it once controlled in Iraq, and will lose more.” The CIA director today says they’re bigger than ever, they’re stronger than ever, they’re stealthier than ever, and they’re getting into this country in greater numbers than ever.

In the speech, the current president spent about six minutes of the eighteen minute speech talking about how the victims were members of the LGBT community, and emphasized that the LGBT community had been subjected to much hatred from other Americans and that we needed to come together as Americans. And that maybe well and true. However, the alleged hatred of the LGBT community by church going, choir singing hypocrites, and they do exist, was not the cause of the Orlando shooting. The Orlando shooting was carried out by a person of Afghan descent who was connected to ISIS and the religion of Islam calls for the killing of gay individuals. That church going, choir singing hypocrite had nothing to do with the Orlando shooting.

And again, this president seems clueless as to the root cause of the Orlando shooting.

Or is he? I don’t think he’s clueless at all. He knows what he’s doing. He continues to lecture the American people to not judge all Muslims by the actions of a few. But yet, after the shooting in Charleston where the perpetrator was seen in a photo with a Confederate battle flag, anyone who owns any depiction of the Confederate battle flag, whether it is a large flag to display atop a flag pole or a mere belt buckle, is labeled a racist and a hater.

Barak Obama, you are an evil man. You’re not stupid. If you were merely stupid, there might be a chance that you could be convinced that the only way to stop incidents such as the Orlando shooting is to destroy Islamic terrorist groups on their home turf. If you were merely stupid, your political opponents might be convinced that you really cared. But you’re not stupid, you’re evil. You are anti-American, you’re an Islamic terrorist sympathizer. You’re goal in life is to destroy the United States of America and with each passing day, you’re getting closer to your goal.

I’m enraged at the president, and any patriotic American citizen should be also.
