INSTEAD OF BEING TOO SERIOUS, CAN’T WE LAUGH?

A few days ago, a link to an article from some liberal feminist website appeared on my Facebook news feed. In the article a black woman was outlining the trials and tribulations of being black. She didn’t grown up in the ghetto living in a three room house with 6 siblings, all being raised by a single mother. Instead, she grew up in a middle class neighborhood with a Mom, Dad, and a swimming pool. She attended good secondary schools and received a scholarship to Harvard. Everything had fallen into place in her life, including marriage and career. Yet, she was griping about racism and white privilege.

It seems as though when someone would ask her where she was going to college and she answered, “Harvard,” folks would ask her, “Is that the one in Massachusetts?” She further observed that white people weren’t getting this type of treatment.

In addition to the above, she claimed that a high school algebra teacher indicated that she was the only “spook” in the class. She also described an incident where a black classmate was accepted to UCLA. A white student, who was rejected indicated that the black student must have gotten in unfairly because of affirmative action. If there was ever a good reason for repealing affirmative action policies, which are discriminatory to minorities, this is one.

I grew up in Cullman, Alabama and currently live in the greater Birmingham, Alabama area. I am somewhat skeptical about this woman’s claims because in this area, being the hotbed of racism, according to the mainstream media and the left, the stuff she’s claiming was said to her and about her just isn’t said where the person talked about can hear it. I’ve heard things said in private, but not to a person’s face. I can only remember a few times when I heard the word, “spook,” said while referring to blacks and that was a long time ago.

I realize some things can get annoying. I have a friend from up north who thinks all southerners eat grits three times a day, when in fact, I’m not a big grits eater at all. For me to enjoy them, they have to be “dressed up,” with items such as shrimp, cheese, smoked sausage, and other good stuff. If they’re on my breakfast plate, I’ll eat one or two bites, but that’s about it. If we’re in a restaurant and a grits entre is on the menu, she will ask me if I’m going to order than. One time at a breakfast buffet, she asked me, “Are you getting grits?” This annoys me, but like Jesus said in First Peter, you should accept what was said, forgive, and not retaliate. In fact, this is something that’s really laughable.

A few weeks ago, I was sitting in the waiting room of the Express Oil Change close to my home. I was in there with an elderly gentleman and another lady who looked to be in her twenties or early thirties. ESPN was on the tube, and they were talking about Alabama’s game with Southern Cal that was coming up the next day. The gentleman said to me and the other lady, I know y’all aren’t happy about football season starting because and that would be all we were going to hear about for the next 4-1/2 months. I replied to him, “Oh contraire. I’m an Alabama alum, a season ticket holder, and own and manage an Alabama sports information website. I gave him a business card and invited him to visit my site. He then asked me if this was a clothing site. I explained the site to him and even showed it to him on my phone. He was obviously surprised that a woman would be well-versed in football. It was a fun thing to see the surprised look on his face and I laughed about it. However, after telling a few of my women friends about this, they were shocked and considered the old gentleman a sexist.

Why not be glad and enjoy the surprised look on someone’s face when you don’t fit in the square hole, to which they think you belong. In fact, I get a lot of surprised looks from guys when I tell them about my website. Some left wing feminists probably think I should get my nose out of joint and act offended. Now why would I do that, I want everyone with whom I speak to visit my Alabama sports website, make it their homepage, and click on the ads.

By getting puffed up and wearing her feelings on her sleeve every time something with a racial connotation is said to her by folks who are surprised that she doesn’t fit the stereotype they had in their heads for blacks, she is masking incidents of true and hurtful racism, and they are out there, that should be dealt with and corrected.

This particular woman who wrote this article has a good life. She should enjoy it and enjoy to a certain extent surprising folks with her outstanding credentials. I did note that she is a native of Los Angeles. Well, maybe folks in in the liberal city of Los Angeles act in the manner she describes, but we don’t act like that here in Alabama. We also know where Harvard is. Guess in Los Angeles, they don’t.

MORE THOUGHTS ON COLIN KAEPERNICK

The following is a continuation of my September 2, 2016 article about the San Francisco 49er quarterback, Colin Kaepernick who refuses to stand while the national anthem is played before San Francisco football games. Some of the following is re-hash, but I’ve also injected new areas of thought.

There’s several pieces to the Colin Kaepernick saga. First of all, he does have the right to sit or kneel while the national anthem is played before San Francisco 49ers football games. Plus everyone else has a right to their opinion about it. Colin is employed by the San Francisco 49ers organization and while he is acting in the course and scope of his employment by San Francisco, he has to do what they say. As his employer, the 49ers’ organization, in my opinion, should tell him to stand. If he doesn’t, he’s out the door. But the NFL and its associated teams have become very leftist over the years, and I guess it didn’t occur to them to just simply tell Mr. Kaepernick, “Yes, you will stand for the national anthem.” But neither the NFL nor the San Francisco 49ers are going to tell him that. So, we’re moving on.

When CK says that American is a nation that oppresses blacks and other people of color, my initial thoughts were just how is happening. Civil Rights legislation was passed in 1964. Subsequently, there was the implementation of Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society in the mid-sixties, where we were told that for a few dollars more a month from taxpayers, we would be able to eradicate poverty among blacks as well as whites. Following the implementation of the Great Society, Affirmative Action legislation was passed and programs were implemented whereby blacks had the opportunity to achieve at the same level as whites without meeting the same requirements as whites. In the late seventies, under the Carter administration, the Community Reinvestment Act was passed which basically allowed banks to lend money to buy houses to people who were not financially able to qualify for a loan to purchase a home. This allowed many blacks to obtain loans to purchase homes.

But wait, these programs haven’t worked. These programs have done nothing to help blacks and other people of color. Instead it could be said that these programs have oppressed blacks and other people of color. Maybe Colin Kaepernick has a point. But I don’t think this is what he and other liberals meant. The above programs plus the rise to power and prominence of teachers’ unions in this country have all contributed to the increased crime rates, increased poverty rates, the dissolution of the nuclear family, and the failing schools which are all prevalent in the black community.

In the second decade of the 21st century, over a half century since Civil Rights legislation was passed and signed into law, terms like “black community” shouldn’t exist except for historical documentation purposes.

One of the programs I cited as detrimental to blacks and other people of color is Affirmative Action, according to the conservative website, Wing Nut Gal, in an article dated October 29, 2014, “Affirmative action is one of the most racist and bigoted practices in the United States of America today. It says to minorities that you’re not good enough to make it in the “white man’s world.” You’re inferior. And because you’re inferior, we’re going to help you because we’re your friends.”  To read the entire article visit The Racist, Bigoted Policy of Affirmative Action.

In the next few days, I will be examining other policies, birthed by liberals that are serving to oppress blacks and other people of color. And you know something, these policies aren’t helping us white folks out much either.

MY THOUGHTS ON COLIN KAEPERNICK

Sometimes issues arise that I just don’t want to talk about, nor write about, and this is one. The story has grown legs, perhaps even tentacles, plus liberals and conservatives are taking opposing points of view. One thing good about it, though, is that as of this writing, the current president of the United States has not said a word.

I think it’s very disappointing that someone who has lived the American dream, someone who has the potential to be one of this country’s icons, is too stupid to realize that he’s throwing his life away.

Of course, Colin Kaepernick has the free speech right to remain seated during while the national anthem is played before NFL games. But so does everyone else have the right to voice their opinions on Kaepernick’s actions.

As Colin’s employer, the San Francisco 49ers franchise could nip this one in the bud. The head coach and/ or the “higher ups” could have said to Mr. Kaepernick, “Oh yes, you will stand up.” If Colin Kaepernick still refuses to stand up, fines and other disciplinary actions can be taken, including the ultimate disciplinary action, dismissal from the team. Since I haven’t heard of anyone voicing the above, I wonder if I’m the first or the one and only.

My thoughts when I initially learned about Kaepernick’s actions were, how is the United States currently oppressing black people or all people of color, for that matter. Affirmative action programs are still in place which allow blacks to get “bumped up” ahead of whites with respect to employment, promotions, college acceptance, etc. Along that line, Jimmy Carter’s Community Reinvestment Act paved the way for many people to qualify for loans to purchase homes when those same people were not capable of making the house payments. A lot of those folks were black. Furthermore, being able to collect welfare for having a child out of wedlock, a part of Lyndon Johnson’s Great Society, was directed toward blacks in order to keep them voting Democrat.

Now, a number of us, including myself, feel that the above government programs have actually done more to hurt and denigrate blacks. So, I guess you could agree that the United States of America is oppressing blacks and all people of color. Maybe we should all remain seated when the National Anthem is played.

I don’t think this is what Colin Kaepernick meant when he stated that America was oppressing blacks and other people of color. Since the media and the liberals are going with it, we’ll say that America oppresses blacks and other people of color because of the whites, particularly the conservative white folks who cling to their guns and to their Bibles. Don’t say I’m not flexible!

First of all, I don’t believe that blacks and other people of color are oppressed by the United States of America. The government programs that I highlighted above were put in place to assist blacks in assimilating to the American way of life. (We know those programs have not worked, but try to think like a liberal for a moment, at least.) We also have laws forbidding discrimination in place. I’d say on paper, blacks and other people of color have definite advantages over us typical white folks.

Colin, tell me the ways that America oppresses blacks. The first step in solving a problem is to define the problem, including facts supporting the existence of the problem. So, lay it out there. Simply sitting for the National Anthem is not going to solve what you see as a problem.

While I stand by my statement that the United States of America does not oppress blacks or other people of color, I’m not saying that there is no racism and/or bigotry in individual Americans. That racism/bigotry will never end until Christ returns and sets up his 1000 reign here on earth. Does that mean that we shouldn’t try to do something about it? Of course not! We have to teach our children right from wrong and as Christians, we have to follow Jesus and do unto others as we would have them do unto us. Will we slip up? Absolutely! We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and will continue to do so.

While it has always appeared to me that liberals continue to make a consistent effort to establish “Heaven here on earth,” that will never happen. Thus, in their failures, they will forever continue to blame white people, conservatives, Christians, gun owners, southerners, etc.

Is there hope for any of us? More importantly, is there hope for blacks and other people of color who have been oppressed and continue to be oppressed by liberal policies including those outlined above? Those policies that liberals consider “sacred cows,” and conservatives are not allowed to whisper about, much less take steps to change? Those policies that were sustained during the Obama administration and will be continued should there be a Clinton administration? You think about it and then tell me.

BEYOND SKIN COLOR? WE SHOULD BE

According to conservativebrief.com, NFL star quarterback, Cam Newton, has found himself in hot water over comments he made against President Obama’s race-baiting agenda, indicating that he is beyond skin color.

cam-newton--0816-12

In an interview with GQ, a reporter tried to get the Carolina Panther QB to blame racism for the reason why many fans dislike him on and off the field. Cam, however, refused to take the bait. “It’s not racism. Everybody’s entitled to their own opinion.”

Before Super Bowl 50, Cam made the following comment, “I’m an African-American quarterback that may scare a lot of people because they haven’t seen nothing that they can compare me to. I don’t want this to be about race, because it’s not. It’s not. Like, we’re beyond that as a nation.”

The article on conservativebrief.com goes on to indicate that the GQ reporter continued to try to press Newton about the fact that some fans dislike him. I don’t know if the reporter meant Panthers’ fans or fans of other teams.

Cam responded, “I’ll let you be the judge. I don’t look at it like that. I look at it like some people have certain beliefs, and I have my own belief, and we can agree to disagree on certain things. But this is what makes sports so amazing, that we can start a discussion around a table, in the newspaper, in the magazines, that will get people’s attention. And that’s what sports does.”

Cam is right, we’re beyond that. This is not the fifties or sixties, we’re living in the last half of the second decade of the twenty-first century.

A lot of folks don’t like Cam and it’s because he’s good and doesn’t play for their team. I don’t like him. On what I consider one of the worst days of my life, a rainy November 26, 2010, I sat in Bryant Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and watched Cam Newton bring his college team back from a 21 point deficit to beat Alabama. Subsequently, the Auburn Tigers, on the arm and legs of Cam Newton won the national championship.

Cam is good, probably the best ever, and when you’re good, many people are not going to like you. The liberals don’t get it, though. They’re rooted in the fifties and sixties, and from all indications, it seems as though they want to remain there. When Carolina played Denver in the Super Bowl this past winter, liberals were attempting to declare that anyone who rooted for Denver over Carolina was a racist. It didn’t matter that you cheered for teams that Cam played against and beat, both college and professional.

With the Obama administration continually pushing to divide us, among other things, along racial lines and the liberals only happy to do what they can to convince minorities that white conservatives hate them because of the color of their skin, I was concerned about the relationship between blacks and whites where I live and in other areas of the south. Thankfully, I can’t tell any difference in the attitudes her and in other places. The blacks don’t seem to have let the liberal rhetoric and lies influence them, thus are beyond skin color.

Business concerns took me to Jackson, Mississippi this past weekend where I stayed in a large hotel in downtown Jackson. Many of the hotel personnel were black and I couldn’t have been treated any nicer, and it seemed to be a “sincere” nice, not a “fake” nice that you see so much of today.

When black NFL head coaches Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy took their teams to the Super Bowl in 2007, one of the gentlemen was asked by the media how it felt to have two black head coaches in the Super Bowl, a first. The coach, not sure which one, replied to the effect that skin color was not important. What was important was that two Christian brothers facing each other.

After an early 2000s’ development in the 1963 Sixteenth Street Church bombing in Birmingham, where, on a Sunday morning, four young girls were killed, Condoleezza Rice, a native of Birmingham and National Security Advisor under George W. Bush, was asked about the developments, in which two of the suspects were finally indicted, tried, and sentenced to life in prison. Ms. Rice, of course, was asked about this because she was black. Like everyone else, in the nation, the National Security Advisor was glad that these monsters had been brought to justice. But she also seemed a little annoyed that she was asked such an obvious question. Yes, she is a black woman, but we’re now living in the twenty-first century and have moved beyond that, beyond skin color.

Cam Newton gets it, Tony Dungy gets it, Lovie Smith gets it, Condoleezza Rice gets it, and millions of conservatives get it. We are happy to say, we’re beyond skin color. Sadly, Barak Obama doesn’t get it, the folks working in his administration don’t get it, Michelle Obama doesn’t get it, Hillary Clinton doesn’t get it, and millions of liberals, including black liberals don’t get it.

Note: Thanks go to conservativebelief.com for information relating to Cam Newton and factmonster.com for facts relating to the Sixteenth Baptist Church bombing.

FEELING GUILTY ABOUT BEING WHITE

As a political writer who must keep up with what’s current, I often read about such people, but I never thought I would have any contact with them.

Instead, I envisioned these folks as high academicians, giving lectures at institutes of higher learning and wandering through the halls and streets of places like UC Berkley, the University of Michigan, Brown University, Wellesley College, Radcliff, Harvard, Princeton, and Yale. They taught graduate level classes in psychology, sociology, and philosophy. For the men, outfits consisting of jeans, t-shirts and old out of style jackets were in order, along with running shoes or Birkenstock sandals, weather permitting, dating back to when Birkenstocks were actually in style. If you’ve ever had a pair, you know they never wear out. For the women, it was much the same except for the jackets, they wore cardigan sweaters. The men would almost always have beards and disheveled hair. Most of the women would be thin with mousy hair. Of course no makeup was ever worn, and fingernails would be short and unpainted. The cars would almost always be older Toyotas or Nissans, containing only the bare necessities. Because fossil fuels were evil, gas mileage was of the utmost importance. Occasionally, one might splurge on a Prius. All of them longed for the day when the use of fossil fuels would be eliminated entirely. It goes without saying that these types fell far to the left in the political spectrum. Businesses, large and small were evil to these men and women.

They longed for the day when the governments ran everything. There would be health care for everyone, healthy food and clean water for everyone plus everyone would have a home or apartment. Political correctness would rule, making speech limited. Guns would be prohibited resulting in very low crime rates since those with criminal tendencies would not have access to guns. Terrorist threats would be eliminated due to universal love, the lack of guns, and climate change solutions that had been put in place by the United States and other countries of the world.

Until then they would be forced to exist in this world full of gun owners, capitalists, Christians, racists, misogynists, homophobes, and the worst of them all, Republicans, also referred to as conservatives.

Of all the sins of the world, racism was the most insidious, fostering white privilege, sometimes referred to as white supremacy. Every white person was born with the racist seed in them and would have to fight their racist tendencies all of their lives. Because of this, white people would be responsible for atoning for this evil seed though feelings of guilt and the inability to enjoy life because as a white person because you don’t deserve that pleasure. Furthermore, you must treat people of color much, much differently than you treat your white contemporaries in order to avoid hurting them further. Life had already dealt them a major blow because of their skin color and you must engage in all forms of political correctness when interacting with them.

After reading a few white liberal guilt articles, I was amused. This couldn’t be real. No one, except for the mentally ill could possibly be this way. Of course, these “tolerant” leftists hate people like me. They pontificate about all the hate that permeates the world and preach to all of us that eliminating the hate will solve the problems of terrorism, crime, misogyny, homophobia, xenophobia, and the worst of them all, racism. But they’re the ones who exude hate.

Much to my dismay, in the past month to six weeks, I have had the displeasure of communicating with two such folks through social media. So, these people do exist and are not that far removed from me.

Of course, you’re a racist if you don’t support Barak Obama’s policies. You can tell them until you’re blue in the face that it’s his policies you don’t agree with. You can further tell them that you have black friends, and patronize black-owned businesses, but it doesn’t matter to them. After 7-1/2 years of being called a racist because I didn’t support Obama’s policies and didn’t agree with him politically, I got fed up. No more Ms. Nice Girl! I put the ball back into their “oh so tolerant” court, telling them that unless they could point to anything I’ve said or written that denigrates this president due to his skin color, they best not hurl the racism accusation at me. Some liberals I’ve sent slithering back under their rock.

Earlier this week, I decided to get into a liberal thread where the “tolerant left” was ripping Melania Trump, wife of Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, to pieces for the alleged parts of her July 18 speech at the Republican National Convention, that were very similar to parts of Michelle Obama’s 2008 speech at the Democrat National Convention. The originator of the thread just couldn’t understand why no Republican friends of his had come forth with opinions on the alleged plagiarism. Of course, there were snide remarks about Republicans is the post. Remember, this person is a liberal.

My first post was as follows: “I’ve tried to ignore anything Michelle Obama has said after her comment, ‘for the first time in my live, I am proud of my country.’ Although I do remember something about going out and eating fried chicken and some anti-white remarks made to the 2015 graduates of Tuskegee University. I barely remember what I had for lunch yesterday, much less something someone I don’t like said in 2008. I have linked an article about it on my political website and reviewed the two passages that are similar. And that’s what they are…similar. Plus we’re talking a few lines from a fifteen or so minute speech. If that’s all the dems can pick out of the opening night at the convention, I guess the opening night was successful.

A so-called “white guilt” liberal commented to me, “Hi, Nancy, racist much?”

I lit into this person, giving them name of this website and told him what I tell other liberals who have accused me a racism because I don’t like the current president’s policies. This person then indicated that my attitude and reaction demonstrated that I harbored racism. Subsequently, this person indicated that he was prejudiced and racist also, but he tries to intellectually resist it. He admitted that he had work to do since he “brings prejudice to the table.”

This person wanted to help me and pointed out that the mentioning of fried chicken, Tuskegee, and anti-white with respect to Michelle Obama makes me a racist. In other words, pointing out that some of Michelle’s speech to the 2015 Tuskegee grads trashed white people was racist. According to this poster, Michelle Obama should be allowed to say and do anything she pleases, I guess.

The poster went on to accuse me of immediately judging and convicting Michelle Obama due to how she said something in her spouse’s nomination party speech. I didn’t say anything about Michelle Obama’s (2008) speech other than I didn’t remember it. This person also indicated that I condemned the first lady for all eternity, except to remember only the things that she did that were wrong. Oh brother! I don’t like her and I don’t like what she stands for. I’m human, what’s wrong with that? I wouldn’t be surprised if this person had some choice things to say about Nancy Reagan back in the day. But wait! Nancy Reagan was white and that makes it okay to say bad things about her. But Michelle Obama is black, therefore saying negative things about her is not okay.

This person also accused me a being a “label-jacker.” I don’t know what that means and I haven’t taken the time to look it up. I carry the flag of all lives matter to misdirect, denigrate, or water down people of color’s desire to bring focus to what is likely a long-term oppressive cry for help.  The poster said that he/she wanted to help me because I carry prejudice in my heart and mind, indicating that with so many people accusing me of racism, that I should ponder it.

This person is a genuine certified loon; and not having time to stay in this thread, I left. Sure, I could have refuted his accusations, but what good would it have done? There’s no reasoning with these folks. The thread began with a discussion of the alleged plagiarism in Melania’s speech, which should have been nothing than a “nuts and bolts” online conversation. Of course, it evolved into what I described above. I later found out that this person only lives a few hours from me. People like this in the South! “I think I need my smelling salts.”

Unfortunately, there are many folks like this person and they have one vote just like I do. Here’s a few links to articles about these folks. It’s scary.
